Amazon Product Selection: How to Find Products That Sell Well

As an Amazon seller, the most troublesome problem is what to sell. There are more than 300 million products on Amazon. Whether you are a novice or an experienced seller, it is difficult to accurately find products that sell well in such a huge market.

In this article, we will walk you through how to find products that sell well on Amazon. Before you get started, you will need:

  • Amazon affiliate account , which can understand the promotion commission of products.

  • Amazon seller account , which is the key to enter the platform to sell.

  • Ahrefs account , Ahrefs is a keyword and SEO tool.

  • JungleScout account , this tool can help sellers understand the hot-selling products on the platform.

Amazon product selection steps:

1. Find Amazon product pages with high promotion traffic

The higher the exposure of Amazon products, the better the products will sell. Conversely, the more popular the products are, the higher the promotion traffic will be. After all, everyone’s marketing team is unwilling to waste time on products that cannot be sold.

So we’re going to use Ahrefs to find out which Amazon product pages are getting the most traffic from famous websites:

  • First, find a well-known website in your industry and copy its domain name into the Ahrefs search box.

  • Click Outgoing links on the left

  • Then click Anchors to see how many Amazon pages are linked to.

  • Then dig deeper into the products those links are promoting.

From the screenshot above, we can see that the product promoted by MensHealth.com is "the best headphones for fitness" and the price is $180. It can earn a considerable promotion commission from it.

Through this research method, we can learn where the promotional traffic of well-known websites goes and find products that sell well.

2. Find market pain points through Amazon reviews

One of the best ways to research the market for a product is to look at user reviews. What products are getting rave reviews from consumers? And what products are causing major disappointments for consumers?

When developing products, consumer complaints about competitor products can be a source of product selection. You will know what kind of products can meet consumer needs and make you stand out from the competition.

For example, from the comments above, we can see that the existing products on the market cannot be adapted to keyboards with built-in styluses, so sellers can develop such a product to solve users' problems.

3. Check listings with few reviews

On the Amazon platform, products that appear on the first page of search results have high sales. If you are researching products and find that there are only a few listings on the first page, congratulations, you have found a gold mine.

Reviews have a huge impact on Amazon rankings. The fewer reviews there are for competing products, the easier it is for you to get a higher ranking.

For example, if you search for "Dell Latitude Case" on Amazon, the top-ranked product has only 1 review, so if you sell this product you can quickly climb to the top of the rankings.

4. Food: A rising star in the category on Amazon

With the launch of Amazon Fresh and Prime Pantry, food is already a hot e-commerce category.

Some high-margin foods are often healthier than alternatives, as consumers are willing to pay more for products that are good for their bodies. Healthy foods are becoming a high-margin category.

According to Google Trends data, the popularity of healthy food is increasing, with searches more than doubling since 2012:

If you don’t want to sell products, you can try to build an affiliate marketing website for such products, which can also bring you income.

5. Find the right products with JungleScout

Trends are very helpful in understanding the market and can give you direction. JungleScout is a tool that can:

  • Show the best-selling Amazon products based on search terms

  • Estimated sales for each listing

  • Display the average price of a category

  • Shows the average number of reviews a product has received

  • Estimated revenue based on sales volume indicators

6. Wholesale products

Buying products wholesale from manufacturers or suppliers and then selling them on Amazon requires you to build relationships with suppliers, which is a long process.

To find out if a supplier is reliable, you can use a tool called Sourcify to verify suppliers.

However, wholesale products mean being controlled by others. If the supplier is not satisfied with your operation mode, they will stop cooperating with you. You also have to compete with other sellers for sales rights. In addition, the initial investment is risky for sellers, and they will bear losses if they fail to sell.

7. How to find a reliable Amazon manufacturer

After finding the products that consumers need and deciding to set up your own brand, the next step is to find suppliers. The quality of suppliers is very important. If your product is of poor quality, it will receive a lot of negative reviews, which can easily lead to a drop in sales.

Steps to find a reliable supplier:

  • First determine whether to find one or multiple suppliers to complete the manufacturing of the product

  • Use reliable websites to find suppliers, including Alibaba.com, Bossgoo.com, and Made-In-China.com

  • Send emails to at least 10 different suppliers to get a feel for their style.

  • Order samples from at least two suppliers to compare product quality

8. Avoid selling products that are dominated by big brands

When selecting products, you need to keep an eye on the stronger competitors in the industry. You also need to pay attention to whether there are any large suppliers entering this field.

Sellers can make a list of competitors and add each one they find to the list. By accumulating experience, you will be able to understand the level of competition in the market.

The entry of big brands into your field proves that there is a great demand for your product in the market. However, in the early stages of product selection, if you see a big brand selling this product, if you don’t have the resources and energy, it is recommended not to wade into this muddy water.

9. Use Ahrefs’ keyword search feature

Ahrefs’ keywords feature can help you discover new product opportunities:

  • Enter two to three keywords for your product into Ahrefs.

  • Results will show related keywords and topics. Check out these results for inspiration.

  • Find popular keywords that have a shopping cart icon. This means that Google is showing these products in the search results, which means that people searching for these products want to buy them.

  • Do a search on Google and see what products Google shows you

The above are some product selection suggestions for sellers. I hope they can help you remove some obstacles in your cross-border e-commerce journey. If you have better suggestions, please leave a message to share.
