The latest FBA fee changes! Costs are going up again!

Recently, Amazon released an important FBA notice in the background. The latest fee changes for 2022 have been released! This time, the fees have increased across the board!

Let’s not talk about how big the change is, but it’s very interesting to read Amazon’s announcement of the fee change. After such a long preparation, they said a lot, such as more than 200,000 new sellers entered the US site in 2021, an increase of more than 50% over last year. More than 15 billion US dollars have been invested in operation centers and distribution networks, 350 new FBA operation centers have been opened, more than 150,000 warehouse employees have been added, and the starting salary has been adjusted to 18 US dollars an hour, etc. In short, FBA has spent too much money this year! Let’s first look directly at the adjustment content and range of the most critical FBA logistics delivery fees . The official data provided are as follows.

The official announcement was so serious and long, it seems that the price will increase a lot, but my preliminary calculation shows that the average increase is only about 5% . The increase in small standard sizes is relatively high, about 8%, while the increase in large standard sizes is relatively low.

Compared with the routine delivery cost adjustments in previous years, this is considered a normal level, and the cost adjustments in 2020 were at a similar level (5% on average, and exceeding 8% in some cases).

One thing you need to note is that the above fee adjustments are for non-clothing categories, while the clothing category is adjusted separately. I have also made a table for you to see the statistics. The data comes from the official seller backend.

The increase here is quite large. Basically, the cost of each size segment has increased by more than 8%, and most of them have even exceeded 9% . The clothing category already has additional FBA logistics costs (return processing fees). Now the increase and delivery fees are slightly higher than ordinary products. It will be more difficult to make small profits in the clothing category in the future.

The above are the changes to FBA logistics and delivery fees, which will take effect on January 18 next year . Next, let's look at the changes in another major expense, storage fees .

The changes in FBA storage fees are relatively simple. Let’s first look at the changes in monthly storage fees.

You can see from the picture that the monthly storage fee remains unchanged during the year-end peak season (October to December), while the fee standards for the remaining months have increased by about 10%.

Then there are the long-term storage fees , look at the picture first.

The charging standard for long-term storage fees has not changed, but the date determination has been adjusted. Originally, long-term storage fees were only charged for inventory stored for more than 1 year (365 days). Now there is an additional standard, and long-term storage fees are also charged for inventory stored for 271 days to 365 days. However, the fee is much lower than that for inventory stored for more than 1 year, only $1.50 per cubic foot, while inventory stored for more than one year is $6.9 per cubic foot.

Generally speaking, this fee adjustment is not outrageous, and it is a relatively normal range compared with previous years. Amazon's Q3 financial report also shows that the official has indeed spent a lot of money on logistics construction, which has reduced the profit growth of the entire Q3 by more than half year-on-year. I was originally worried that the sellers would be charged more in the future, but now it seems that at least Amazon has not taken any drastic measures in the routine adjustment of FBA fees!
