Walmart plans to launch streaming service for Prime members to compete with Amazon Prime!

It is learned that according to foreign media reports, Walmart is planning to launch a streaming service for member users to attract more people to subscribe to Walmart+ and compete more fiercely with Amazon.

Walmart has talked to major media companies including Paramount, Disney and Comcast, but it is unclear which company will reach a deal with Walmart, people familiar with the matter said.

The report also said Walmart is weighing options to bundle the best streaming entertainment into its subscription service. Walmart declined to comment on the matter.

Walmart launched the Walmart+ program in September 2020, providing members with unlimited free deliveries, fuel discounts, and no-queue checkout. In recent months, Walmart has also added additional benefits for members, including a six-month Spotify Premium membership and greater fuel discounts.

Adding streaming services would make Walmart+ more attractive and put it in direct competition with Amazon Prime, which offers free two-day shipping on top of free grocery delivery, Prime Video, Prime Music and other services.

It is worth noting that if the streaming service is successfully launched, Walmart will have an advantage because Walmart+ charges a lower fee of $98 per year, while Amazon Prime charges $139 per year.

Walmart did not disclose the total number of its Walmart+ members, but according to the latest survey by PYMNTS, the total number of Walmart+ members in the United States is currently approximately 51 million, and the total number of Amazon Prime members is approximately 171 million.
