Breaking news! Amazon will ban the sale of such products, and sellers are discounting to clear inventory overnight?

In the past two years, Amazon's platform regulatory policies have continued to upgrade, not only increasing the crackdown on account violations, but also tightening product sales audits.

At the beginning of this year, Amazon removed lithium battery products from its shelves in batches, and many sellers' sales links became unavailable overnight. Behind this sudden incident, Amazon also revealed its determination to strengthen its risk control measures.

Just recently, Amazon once again issued a sales ban notice, affecting a large number of film bag products.

Amazon's "plastic ban"? Such products must be removed before August 5!

It is learned that Amazon US recently disclosed an announcement: Due to the regulatory requirements of relevant laws and regulations, all opaque or single-color polyester film bags must be removed from the shelves before August 5, 2022. If FBA sellers still have remaining inventory of related film bags after August 5, all ASINs will be removed by Amazon.

Once the news was announced, many sellers were deeply panicked: Does this mean that all products packaged in polyester film bags cannot be sold?

"My packages are all wrapped in courier bags, and there is another batch at sea. I am very worried that Amazon will kill them."
“Is this very different from the EU’s ban on plastics two years ago? The UK link was also removed at that time.”
"Last year, we had a product with a colorful opaque package. We received a warning from Amazon that we needed a transparent package so you could see the product inside. So we later changed it to half transparent and half colorful."

For this reason, a seller opened a case to consult customer service, and the reply was that all opaque or solid-color polyester film bags sold or products using such packaging bags need to be removed.

However, some customer service staff also stated that after verification, the policy was issued for drugs and drug paraphernalia, mainly targeting all transparent or solid-color polyester film bag products, that is, the sales listing itself, rather than the product packaging.

The various opinions from customer service representatives have also made sellers nervous. To be on the safe side, some sellers have replaced the packaging bags with translucent ones to avoid the risk of their listings being removed from the shelves.

However, some sellers have bluntly stated that it is common to use colored polyester film bags for product packaging. Given the huge number of products, it is obviously impractical for warehouse workers to identify one by one whether the packaging bags comply with regulations.

A closer look at Amazon's original announcement shows that the subject is "mylar bags that are not clear or single-colored," and the title is "mylar bag listings . " This means that the policy targets listings of this type of product, and does not specify that products packaged in mylar bags will also be affected.

Amazon's drug and controlled substance policies clearly state that products may not be used to manufacture, prepare or use controlled substances, including opaque or non-solid polyester film bags.

From this, it seems likely that some criminals used polyester film bags to pack banned drugs, and Amazon received regulatory requirements from relevant departments, so it introduced this policy.

It is learned that when checking the polyester film bag category, a large number of new links can be seen, and some of the products are on promotion. Some sellers speculate that this may be because of Amazon’s unexpected policy blow, so they had to reduce prices overnight to clear inventory.

Are there risks in storage? These packaging regulations must be followed!

Controversy surrounding Amazon's product packaging has always occurred.

Previously, a seller asked for help on the forum. He was going to send a batch of textile products to the FBA warehouse and wanted to use ordinary express bags for the outer packaging. However, after checking the official packaging requirements, he found that the polyethylene bags must be completely transparent. After opening a case for consultation, the customer service staff gave different answers on whether there was such a regulation. Therefore, the seller was very worried about the risk of not being able to enter the warehouse due to using opaque plastic bags.

Some sellers said that Amazon did not explicitly stipulate that transparent bags must be used for packaging, and many people can successfully enter the warehouse by using various colors or sealed packaging bags. However, the risk of sudden inspections by Amazon cannot be ruled out. A seller who previously used white bubble bags was recently warned by Amazon that they did not meet regulations.

From the experience of these sellers, we can see that Amazon has relevant regulations on the transparency of plastic bag packaging, but the supervision is loose and there is no mandatory requirement. However, it is clear that the packaging bags must meet the following conditions:

  • Sealed packaging bags must be equipped with anti-suffocation labels
  • Goods made in China for export must be labeled "made in china"
  • When using colored packaging bags, a barcode must be affixed to the outside to ensure that it can be scanned successfully.

In general, sellers’ product packaging must comply with relevant regulations to avoid unnecessary warehousing risks. Sellers who use non-transparent polyester film bags for packaging do not need to worry too much at present. Amazon’s policy is mainly aimed at such products themselves and will not cause the risk of delisting products with such packaging.
