As of June 2018, Auchan has 75 large-scale hypermarkets and 1 boutique supermarket Hi-Auchan across the country.


In addition to offline channels, Auchan is also actively developing online business. In November 2017, Sun Art Retail Group, to which Auchan Retail China belongs, signed a highly anticipated new retail strategic cooperation agreement with e-commerce giant Alibaba. Currently, Auchan's online platforms include "Taoxianda" in cooperation with Taobao, "Auchan Wine Cellar" that provides selected imported red wines, and "Auchan Home Delivery", an online and mobile platform.


In addition, the "Auchan 1 Minute" that was first launched in June 2017 is the first large-scale unmanned retail device in China. It marks the first experimental step of Auchan Retail China in the field of community stores. In the future, there will be more "Auchan 1 Minute" distributed in the communities where each Auchan store is located. It will further optimize the customer shopping experience in a fast, convenient and intelligent way.

Development History


-In 1961, Auchan was born and opened its first store in the "High Region" in the north of Roubaix (homonymous with Auchan).


-In 1967, the first large low-price supermarket opened in Roncq/Tourcoing.


-In 1969, the first Auchan shopping center opened.


-In 1977, Auchan Miriye Holding Plan was implemented and employees began to participate in company investment and hold shares.


-In 1981, Auchan began its internationalization and established its first supermarket in Spain, Alcampo.


-In 1995, we opened a purchasing office in Shanghai, China, taking the first step in international purchasing.


- From 1996 to 1997, Auchan expanded into the supermarket sector, acquiring Docks (France) and Pao de Acucar (Spain, Portugal) and partnering with la Rinascente (Italy).


-In 1997, Auchan cooperated with IFIL to become one of the important large-scale commercial retail enterprises in Europe. Shanghai Auchan Supermarket Co., Ltd. was established.


-In 1999, the first large supermarket in Shanghai, China opened in Yangpu District, Shanghai.


-2000, the beginning of online commerce, experimentation in France and Spain. The number of shopping malls owned by Auchan Group abroad exceeds the number of shopping malls owned in its home country.


-In 2001, it acquired 67% of the shares of Taiwan RT-Mart, the second largest retailer in Taiwan. Now RT-Mart Taiwan has 26 large supermarkets. Online business has been launched in France, Spain and Italy.


-From 2001 to 2002, Auchan opened stores in Shanghai Changyang, Suzhou, Wuxi and Hangzhou in China.


-In 2002, Auchan's total turnover reached more than 26 billion US dollars, ranking 162nd in Fortune magazine's 2002 Global 500 list.


-In 2003, the Chengdu and Beijing stores in China opened; the Tianjin store, Minhang and Jiading stores in Shanghai are under preparation; projects in Ningbo, Nanjing, Wuhan, Changsha, Qingdao and other places are also in operation.

-In 2017, Auchan Retail ranked 146th among Fortune Global 500 companies and is one of the top 10 food retailers in the world.


-In 2019, Auchan Retail operated in 17 countries in Europe, Asia and Africa through a single-brand, multi-format product approach.
