According to media reports, a stack of $1,000 ghost money can be sold for $5, which is 32 times the domestic price. Most of these ghost money are produced in Mibeizhuang Village, Baoding, Hebei. As the largest production base of funeral products in the country, it gathers buyers from all over the country and many overseas regions.
 
 
It is reported that this is actually the resurgence of Chinese ghost money. In the past two years, China's ghost money custom has become popular in Western countries, exporting alternative culture. Some foreigners even specially recorded videos to teach how to burn ghost money in various ways, so as to express grief and improve wealth in this way.
 
On many foreign e-commerce platforms, ghost money and related funeral items have become hot-selling items. On Amazon, the highest price of ghost money on the US site is $21.95, equivalent to RMB 140.5, and on the European site it is as high as 30.15 pounds, which is about RMB 338.3.
 
 
The popularity of Chinese ghost money overseas has also triggered a wave of coverage by domestic media, with #Hebei dollar version of ghost money becoming popular overseas# also becoming a hot search. With a premium of dozens of times higher than that of domestic e-commerce platforms, ghost money seems to have become a new popular category at first glance. However, compared with the media's praise, sellers as insiders do not seem optimistic.

One seller pointed out that the ghost money, which seems to cost only a few yuan to buy, can be sold at a price of more than ten dollars, making huge profits. However, after taking into account commissions, delivery fees, gross profit margins, advertising fees and other expenses, the actual profit is not high.
 
A seller checked the sales of ghost money on the US site and found that the sales were not good. There were 28,824 in the main category and 95 in the small category, and the estimated monthly sales were only 120.

The data clearly shows that the top sellers sell at most several hundred pieces per month, while the vast majority of sellers sell only dozens of pieces per month. The market capacity of the category is actually very small and does not have investment value.
 
Many sellers said that the so-called overseas popularity is just an illusion created by media hype. On the one hand , the profit is not high, on the other hand, it is highly homogenized. Moreover, it is a seasonal product, and only on special days such as Halloween will customers buy it, so it is easy to be unsalable. Although it is an indisputable fact that Chinese ghost money has infiltrated the culture of overseas regions, from the perspective of cross-border sellers, the so-called huge profits are nothing but false bubbles. In view of the specific profit assessment and deeper cultural differences, it is even more difficult to take root in overseas markets.
 
Sellers need to assess the situation and not be carried away. Whether it is a false popularity or real new traffic, they need to enter the market with caution. So far, many categories such as decompression toys, blind boxes, and squid games have become popular one after another, and many sellers have followed the mainstream and entered the market.
 
However, all of these popular categories contain many potential safety risks, among which copyright infringement is the most serious. As Amazon continues to escalate its crackdown on violations, once infringement is involved, it is easy for the store to be banned. Therefore, sellers need to carefully check themselves to avoid infringements involving copyrights, trademarks, etc.
