Severely hit! Amazon has a large-scale "fatal" situation!

Amazon has recently come up with a lot of weird things to disgust sellers!

Complex situations such as system data anomalies, comprehensive logistics delays, employee strikes during Black Friday, and the fact that the United States is facing the impact of extreme weather and holiday breaks have caused many sellers to lament that this is not just a peak season with huge orders, it is a peak season with huge heartbreak!

Logistics are completely delayed and delivery time is extended!

During the Black Friday promotion, many sellers encountered a problem: a large-scale phenomenon in logistics! Many FBM sellers were directly affected by this, resulting in a "cliff-like decline in traffic". It also had to pause all advertising spending.

It is understood that the sellers originally set the shipping time to 2 to 4 days plus 1 day of processing time, but the shipping time shown on the Amazon platform is as long as 10 to 12 days, which means that most sellers' products have suffered an additional delay of 8 days or more.

One seller revealed that his OTDR was far above 90%, but the backend showed that the goods would not be delivered until December 4th to 6th, which directly turned into 10-12 shipping days. He set the transportation time for these areas to 2-4 days and the processing time to 1 day. According to the dashboard, only 8 days should have been added, but an additional 8 days were added.

Many sellers have encountered similar situations . Most of them have a relatively high OTDR. However, the dashboard data shows an estimated extension period of 0.8 days, but the reality is that they have to wait patiently for more than 7 days to complete the delivery. This is unacceptable to sellers!

The extension of delivery time has had a direct and severe impact on sellers, and many accounts with large sales have not escaped the bad luck.

Amazon’s response to this situation is:
If the handling and shipping times for the relevant ASINs are determined to be accurate, you may see a promise extension on your orders and offers. A promise extension is an additional number of days we may add to a delivery date to account for logistical factors that may delay delivery, such as extreme weather, shipping network limitations, or a seller's recent history of delivering after the set delivery date.

The promise extension was to move those accounts that were at 75% and below at OTDR and bring their metrics above 90%, but now Amazon is forcibly adding this to all accounts!

However, the problem is not a recent one, but rather widespread delays reported by many sellers about two weeks ago, when one seller found that 14 out of 20 orders were suddenly at risk of delayed delivery without claim protection or OTDR protection.

This problem was particularly prominent during the Black Friday promotion this week. A large number of delivery delays directly impacted sellers’ Black Friday sales: a vicious cycle of decreased conversion rates, decreased advertising sales, and decreased organic rankings. What’s worse, it also affected the decline in account health ratings. Many sellers had no choice but to accept the reality of poor sales performance!

Snowstorm + Thanksgiving, multiple factors make the situation worse

The recent extreme weather and holiday season in the United States have further exacerbated logistics issues:

1. Impact of blizzard weather: According to the latest forecast from the US Meteorological Bureau, from November 23 to 28, Los Angeles to the central and eastern regions will face blizzard weather, causing the goods in the region to be affected to varying degrees by the climate. It is estimated that the delivery time will be delayed by 7 to 10 days.

2. Congestion in multiple Amazon warehouses: Warehouses such as LGB8 and ONT8 are severely congested, it is difficult to obtain pallet appointments, warehouses frequently refuse to accept goods, and sellers face the risk of out-of-stock.

3. Thanksgiving suspension: On Thanksgiving Day on November 28, overseas warehouses and most fleets will suspend operations, including customs clearance, container pickup, container disassembly and delivery. At the same time, most fleets and drivers will also take vacations, and cargo operations will be delayed across the board.

Therefore, due to the combined impact of these holidays and weather factors, cargo pickup and delivery orders will have to be postponed until December 2nd local time (Monday in the United States) before they can be rescheduled.

This series of unfavorable conditions forced sellers to accept chain reactions such as delayed delivery of goods, decreased advertising conversion, and lower rankings. These directly affected the most valuable "explosive order opportunities" during the peak season.

Strikes are coming: FBA sellers face new challenges

Yesterday, US news reported that Amazon employees in more than 20 countries, including the United States, plan to hold strikes and protests between Black Friday (November 29) and Cyber Monday (December 2).

The action was initiated by the Swiss labor organization UNI Global Union and the grassroots political organization Progressive International, and will be carried out in cities in the United States, Brazil, Germany, Japan, the United Kingdom and other countries.

The strike, called "Make Amazon Pay," was jointly initiated by global labor unions and anti-poverty organizations. Amazon employees' main demands are to increase wages, improve working conditions and treatment, and pay attention to environmental sustainability.

Although Amazon claims to offer competitive wages and benefits, this clearly did not fully address employee dissatisfaction, leading to the strike.

For sellers who rely on Amazon's FBA services, the strike could have a significant impact on Amazon's logistics and delivery systems, leading to delayed order delivery and inventory backlogs.

In addition, logistics delays and out-of-stock situations may lead to a decline in consumer shopping experience, affect the seller’s store’s praise rate and repurchase rate, and further affect sales performance, thereby increasing the seller’s operating costs in disguise!

Here, we recommend that sellers prepare stocks in advance, especially for best-selling and high-demand products, and arrange replenishment in a reasonable manner to ensure that products are not out of stock during the strike. If Amazon warehouses are restricted, it is necessary to flexibly adjust promotional strategies to reduce dependence on logistics peaks, such as conducting promotional activities on other platforms before logistics return to normal.
