It is learned that according to data from the Pitney Bowes Parcel Shipping Index, as of the end of 2020, Amazon's parcel volume market share in the United States jumped to 21%, leading FedEx and second only to UPS.
All major logistics carriers saw revenue and volume surge last year as the pandemic boosted the e-commerce economy, but Amazon Logistics has outpaced FedEx, UPS and the Postal Service in both categories every year since 2014, according to Pitney Bowes.
Although other modes of transportation such as regional carriers are becoming increasingly popular, the market is still highly monopolized by a few giants. Data shows that logistics services other than FedEx, UPS, the Postal Service and Amazon only account for 1% of the market share.
Pitney Bowes predicts that UPS's package volume in the United States will nearly double to 39 billion pieces by 2026, and package volume during this year's peak season is expected to exceed 5 million pieces per day.
The report also shows that in 2020, the number of parcel shipments from Amazon more than doubled to 4.2 billion. However, the number of parcels outsourced by Amazon to other logistics companies for delivery reached 2.8 billion, which is twice that of 2019 (1.4 billion).
