It is learned that Walmart recently announced that it will invest 450 million US dollars to build its largest automated distribution center to date in South Carolina, USA, and plans to open it in 2024.
It is reported that the total area of the distribution center is about 720,000 square feet. The facility will rely on a combination of manual and high-tech automation technology to handle grocery perishable items including produce, eggs, dairy products, flowers and frozen goods and deliver them to nearby stores.
In addition, this will also be Walmart's largest grocery distribution center to date, capable of delivering twice as many products as traditional grocery distribution centers. It is expected to create more than 400 jobs in the region. Walmart currently operates four distribution centers and 122 retail stores in South Carolina, with 34,000 employees.
Tim Cooper, senior vice president of Walmart U.S. supply chain operations, said the new distribution center better ensures that stores are always stocked with the freshest products and provide quality service to South Carolina customers at the best prices.
