Walmart launches three "hassle-free" return options to boost holiday sales

Walmart has announced that it will launch three "hassle-free" return options. Starting October 1, 2022, Walmart will launch:

  • Extending the holiday season return period, allowing customers to return eligible products between October 1, 2022 and January 31, 2023;
  • Curbside returns, which will allow customers to return items in their cars;
  • Walmart+ members can return items at home by selecting an eligible return in the app and then handing the return, without a box or label, to a delivery driver for the retailer to process.

Walmart said curbside pickup has become a popular shopping option and is now increasing the convenience of return services. Faced with the backdrop of Americans reducing spending amid high inflation, Walmart is making "significant pricing investments in key categories" and will offer "thousands of additional returns" on top beauty gifts, consumer electronics, home, toys and other products.

“Saving customers time and money is in our DNA, and I’m proud of how we’re innovating to deliver what customers want this holiday season: unlocking a wider variety of gift purchases through a seamless omnichannel shopping experience,” said Steve Ward, executive vice president and chief e-commerce officer of Walmart U.S., in a statement. “We listened to our customers, and this year we’re committed to making holiday shopping easier, more affordable and more enjoyable for customers.”

Walmart announced that it will hire 40,000 full-time and temporary employees as the holiday shopping season approaches. It hopes to fill vacancies in stores and customer service staff as well as truck drivers. It is reported that after Walmart added 150,000 full-time employees and 20,000 supply chain employees last year, its recruitment needs have decreased this year.
