Is there still hope? ! The latest progress of China-US trade negotiations!

On May 10 (Friday), the United States officially implemented a punitive tariff policy against my country, raising tariffs on goods worth $200 billion from 10% to 25%.

*Official email from U.S. Customs

In the previous article, it was mentioned that the two sides still had a negotiation agenda a few hours after the tariffs were implemented (I didn’t review it today, and the previous article was deleted for reasons that everyone understands). The subsequent negotiation has now ended, so what was the result?

Let’s first see what Trump said about the first round of negotiations after the resumption of the war, of course, on Twitter…

To sum it up simply,

China and the United States made constructive progress in this consultation, and Trump said that he still has a very solid relationship with our country's leaders.

Dialogue on trade issues between the two sides will continue in the future, and the United States has already implemented tariff increases. Whether these punitive tariffs will be lifted still depends on the results of future negotiations.

Judging from the results alone, this round of consultations has not made any substantial progress. The additional tariffs on 200 billion products are still valid, and it is unclear whether they will be canceled in the future.

What is more serious is that according to foreign media reports, Trump issued a call on Saturday, demanding that China take action as soon as possible to reach a bilateral negotiation, otherwise it will face even worse tariff issues.

Trump claims that China has been punished so badly in recent trade negotiations that he wants to delay the negotiations until 2020, hoping that Trump can step down in the 2020 US election and reach a better agreement with the new president.

Trump also said that he would win the election. If he failed to reach a settlement with China before then and the negotiations were delayed into his second term, China would face even more severe tariff penalties.

It seems that Trump's sudden attack last week was not entirely due to the slow progress in trade negotiations, but more to win over the hearts of the people for his 20th election.

Will American voters buy into this? Trump's wishful thinking may fail this time. Let's see what American netizens said when Trump announced the escalation of trade frictions.

Mr. President, sorry to bother you, just one small correction: it is not China that 'pays' the tariffs to the US, it is the US consumers of Chinese goods that pay. It's a small thing, but it does make everything you say about the trade war look a little silly.

Same thing for us, even for goods that haven't even been shipped to the warehouse yet, we started out paying 10% and now we have to pay 25%. This is a huge blow to small businesses and cash flow. This will not affect China at all commercially, it will only affect American companies that import Chinese goods.

It's the American consumers who are paying these tariffs! Why don't you understand?

Obviously, American voters are also very dissatisfied with the losses they have suffered, and Trump is also facing pressure from the domestic side when raising tariffs at this time.

Escalating trade frictions will not benefit either side or the whole world. We hope that both sides can achieve substantial progress in the negotiations as soon as possible under mutual pressure.

For us cross-border sellers, we may be more concerned about whether our products will be taxed. Which products are most seriously affected by this tariff increase?

Most of them are products such as telecommunications equipment and printed circuit boards, but there are also a few categories that may be affected for some sellers, such as auto parts (which is a hard-hit area), etc.

If you want to know in detail which categories are taxed, you can chat with me privately to get a list~
