Investigating high prices! FTC asks Amazon, Walmart and other retail giants to submit supply chain data!

It is learned that in order to investigate local supply chain disruptions and high prices, the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has asked nine major U.S. retailers, including Amazon and Walmart, to submit supply chain-related information and must respond within 45 days.

The FTC said the investigation is "not the ultimate goal of law enforcement." In addition to understanding the reasons behind supply chain disruptions, they will also review whether these companies have caused supply chain bottlenecks, shortages, and price increases through anti-competitive behavior to strengthen supervision of illegal activities.

The FTC also emphasized that these companies must detail the major factors that interfered with their transportation and distribution capabilities; the impact of supply chain disruptions on order delays, costs, and increased market prices; the products, suppliers, and inputs most affected; and the specific measures the companies have taken to mitigate these issues.

Furthermore, companies are required to provide internal documentation on supply chain disruptions, including supply chain-related strategies: pricing, marketing, costs, profit margins, sales, and market share.

With the holiday season approaching and supply shortages continuing, the Biden administration is concerned about the progress of inflation and is trying to assure consumers that his administration is working to ease supply chain problems. If prices continue to rise during the year-end sales season, people's dissatisfaction may become more intense. They will urge ministries and agencies, including the FTC, to address supply chain issues.
