What is ThredUp? ThredUp Review

ThredUp is a second-hand clothing consignment website in the United States. It provides a second-hand clothing consignment platform for growing babies and women who constantly need to change clothes. Its service mechanism makes the entire transaction process particularly simple. Users only need to put the clothes in the bag and wait to receive the money.

About ThredUp

ThredUp launched international shipping services in 44 countries in 2017, starting the global sales process. As the world's largest second-hand trading platform, it mainly sells daily necessities, including shoes, clothing and handbags, with up to 35,000 branded products for customers to choose from, covering nearly 90% of the products of offline retailers, including: Tommy Hilfiger, Gap, J. Crew, Lululemon, Disney and Lands End, etc., with a maximum discount of 10%. And more than 1,000 new products are put on the shelves every hour.

In the summer of 2017, ThredUp also launched the consignment service Luxe, opening the market to luxury sellers and shoppers. It also provides a service called "Clean-Out Kit", where female sellers can pack their second-hand goods together and send them to ThredUp, which will then sort them. Platform sellers can earn up to 80% commission.

In addition to its headquarters in San Francisco, ThredUp also has four distribution centers and a New York news office. In addition, after establishing three physical stores in California and Texas in 2017, the company also opened smart stores. James REINhart, co-founder and CEO of ThredUp, said: "ThredUp's stores are designed to reshape the frugal tradition of modern consumers. Although consumers' consumption habits are rapidly shifting online, multi-channel retailers outside the Internet still account for 91% of the US retail market, which can bring huge potential to online and offline brands in an intuitive and intelligent way." ThredUp's consumer research shows that shoppers want to touch and feel the products before buying. And ThredUp's stores can better serve consumers.

ThredUp Mode

When it was first founded, the core problem that ThredUP solved was to provide parents with a platform where they could safely dispose of their baby's unused clothing.

In addition, considering the difficulty in controlling the quality of second-hand clothes and the pain points in after-sales service, ThredUP did not adopt the C2C model commonly used by second-hand platforms, but inserted a link in it and adopted the C2B2C (consignment) model. The specific operation process is: users pack second-hand clothes into a bag unified by the platform and ThredUP sends people to pick them up. Clothes can only be sold after passing ThredUP inspection. If the seller applies for a ThredUp credit card account, he can receive the payment immediately.
