Amazon sellers see a sharp drop in orders


“Since February, the order volume has skyrocketed. Yesterday, there were only 5 orders!

At this time last year, there were hundreds of orders every day, but now the difference is staggering.

“The number of orders has been in the single digits for several consecutive days. I have never encountered this situation before, and I thought there was something wrong with the store.

"The advertising ACOS these days is also scary. In previous years, there would be a wave of traffic in late February, but now there is no feeling at all."

Judging from the feedback from sellers, the sharp decline in sales began mainly after Valentine's Day. Although February is traditionally an off-season, this year's sales drop was significantly greater than in previous years.

As the end of February approached, everyone tried their best: optimizing listings, adjusting advertising strategies, increasing promotional efforts, and trying every possible way to restore order volume, but the results were still unsatisfactory.



Reasons behind the sales plunge


The decline in sales is not caused by a single factor, but is the result of multiple factors.

The following reasons may be the main factors leading to this phenomenon:

Off-season factors: January and February are the off-season for many products, and the sales decline varies across product categories and markets. In addition, many sellers are busy launching new products at the beginning of the year, and market competition has intensified.

Impact of US tax season: The US Internal Revenue Service (IRS) officially opened the 2025 tax season on January 27. Consumers may need to pay taxes or wait for tax refunds, which means a reduction in disposable income, indirectly affecting their shopping expenses.

Impact of winter storms: Since the end of January, winter storms have swept across the United States, Canada and other regions, especially the snowstorm in the eastern United States on February 16, which left more than 110 million people in weather warning areas, and some areas suffered severe weather such as heavy rain, floods and strong winds. This has caused fluctuations in the order volume of some related categories, and the sales of some categories have increased due to the weather.

Consumer confidence declines: According to the latest report from the University of Michigan, the consumer confidence index fell to 64.7 in February, a drop of nearly 10%. This decline is mainly due to American consumers' concerns about the future economic outlook, especially under the influence of uncertain factors such as Trump's plan to impose tariffs and rising inflation. Low consumer confidence has also reduced shopping spending, further affecting overall sales.

Impact of the economic environment: US discount retailers are also facing tremendous pressure, with many stores closing or filing for bankruptcy. The downturn in the entire retail market reflects the decline in consumer purchasing power.
