The Wireless Power Consortium was founded on December 17, 2008. It is a cooperative organization composed of multiple independent companies. It aims to create and promote the market's widespread adoption of the international wireless charging standard Qi that is compatible with all rechargeable electronic devices.

As of October 2017, WPC has 289 members from various domestic and international industry segments, including Apple, Samsung, Microsoft, LG Electronics, Philips, Nokia, Sony, VLG, Wisepower and other 289 brands have been included in the WPC Alliance.

Alliance Introduction

The Wireless Power Consortium is governed by an Alliance Charter that provides for confidentiality, intellectual property, and decision-making. The mission of the Wireless Power Consortium is to create and promote market adoption of the international wireless charging standard Qi that is compatible with all rechargeable electronic devices.

The Alliance is managed by a Steering Committee, in which each permanent member has a seat. The Chairman of the Steering Committee is Menno Treffers. Technical specifications are created by the Specifications Working Group, whose meetings are chaired by Chairman Scott Mollema. The Promotion Working Group is responsible for the Alliance's communication with the outside world, and its Chairman is Camille Tang.

Technical specifications

The wireless charging standard will have a charging time equal to that of existing wired charger technology and will comply with major international radiation safety regulations and emission standards. The alliance will first set international standards for devices of 5 watts and below, and will subsequently develop international standards for higher-power devices and equipment.
