What is Amazon Smile Logo Infringement? Amazon Smile Logo Infringement Review

Amazon's logo is a smiling pattern made up of an arrow pointing from the letter A to Z, which means that Amazon is willing to deliver its products and services to consumers around the world.

Amazon smile logo

Regarding the location of the smile curve on the Amazon website, careful sellers should be able to find that it does not follow the usual logic of starting from the first letter of the word to the last letter, but starts from the letter A and ends at the letter Z. This also reflects Amazon’s ambition: from the first letter A of the alphabet to the last letter Z - Amazon, everything is included.

Amazon's name origin

Bezos chose the name Amazon for two reasons:

First, it evokes the Amazon rainforest, hinting at the massive scale of Amazon’s operations;

Second, websites were sorted primarily in alphabetical order at the time, so choosing Amazon, which starts with "A," would allow the website to be ranked higher.

Infringement incidents

The logo in the picture above was originally automatically generated by the Amazon system. When sellers publish products, if they sell in batches. For example, if the seller fills in the quantity as 4 in the Package Quantity attribute, then when the listing is displayed, it is possible that the above label will be generated. However, the system generation is not fixed. Sometimes, due to the seller's filling in, or the system does not recognize it, this logo will sometimes appear and sometimes not. Therefore, when many sellers publish products, in order to make the quantity words more prominent and more attractive to consumers, they simply PS the above logo on their main pictures. Little do they know that the smiley face curve in the logo is Amazon's own intellectual property.

In early August 2018, a seller received a red flag warning for infringing on the Amazon logo.

Solution

For sellers who are encountering this situation, they can simply change the product pictures. For sellers whose products have not been retrieved by the platform and removed from the shelves, they should also change the pictures as soon as possible to avoid sudden and unnecessary listings being removed or deleted.
