U.S. e-commerce sales increased 8% year-on-year in June

It is learned that according to foreign media reports, according to the latest Signifyd e-commerce pulse data, US e-commerce sales in June increased by 8% year-on-year, thanks to the strong performance of grocery and daily necessities categories.

It is understood that compared with June 2023, the overall Signifyd e-commerce consumer price index fell by 1.14%, while consumer spending increased. According to Signifyd data, price declines are likely to be the reason for the increase in sales of general merchandise. The general merchandise price index fell by 2.71% in June, sales increased by 30% year-on-year, and clothing sales increased by 8% year-on-year. In contrast, prices of outdoor leisure products increased by nearly 4% year-on-year, while sales decreased by 2%.

Meanwhile, the beauty category saw a 1.08% price increase, while sales fell 18% year-on-year. The electronics category saw a 3.4% price drop, while sales fell 10%. The furniture category saw a 0.52% price increase, while sales were flat year-on-year. The luxury category saw a 12.16% price drop, while sales rose 4% year-on-year.

Phelim Killough, senior data analyst at Signifyd, said that in general, online prices have historically been deflationary, but this has not been the case in recent years. The overall decline in e-commerce prices in June was mainly due to large declines in high-priced categories such as electronics and luxury goods, as well as large-volume items such as apparel and general merchandise.
