More than 60,000 lithium batteries sold on Amazon and other platforms have been recalled! 100 accidents have been reported

It is learned that the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recently announced the recall of a lithium battery sold by SKIL because it may overheat and cause fire and burn hazards.

It is understood that the recalled products are SKIL 40V 5.0Ah lithium-ion batteries produced before May 1, 2021. "SKIL" and "PWRCORE 40" are printed on the battery. The recalled battery is sold separately as model BY8708-00 for all SKIL 40V tools, and is also sold in the form of a combination kit with a SKIL 40V brushless 20-inch push mower (model #PM 4910-10) or SKIL 40V brushless 20-inch self-propelled mower (model #SM4910-10). Model BY8708-00 and the manufacturing date code (the first three digits of the 9-digit serial number) are located on the nameplate on the top of the battery pack.

About 63,000 of the products were sold on Amazon, Walmart and Lowe's websites, as well as other hardware and home improvement stores, between October 2019 and December 2024, priced at $170 (battery sold separately) or $400 (combination kit with lawn mower). So far, the company has received 100 reports of incidents involving battery overheating, melting, smoking and fire, including eight reports of minor burns and smoke inhalation and 49 reports of related property damage.

The CPSC said consumers should immediately stop using the recalled lithium batteries and contact Chervon to receive a free replacement or refund for the battery. Consumers should register at www.skil.com/recalls and Chervon will provide consumers with a battery collection kit to return the recalled batteries and provide the requested remedy after the consumer returns them.
