ChatGPT visits soared to 672 million in January! Monthly active users reached 100 million!

Generative AI service ChatGPT is on fire at the start of the new year. As the service moves from cult status to provide a much-needed shot in the arm for the tech industry, it could in turn boost e-commerce. An analysis of SimilarWeb data by Digital-adoption.com, a digital adoption magazine, shows that 672 million users visited the super-hot AI chatbot in January 2023. Since ChatGPT was released in late November 2022, visits have surged by 18.3 to more than 36 times.

Not only students use it to write papers, ChatGPT has also found its use in cross-border e-commerce. This week, JD.com announced that it would integrate certain features of ChatGPT into its product services, while rival Alibaba Group is also developing an artificial intelligence (AI) tool similar to ChatGPT, which is reportedly undergoing internal testing.

At the same time, the first "Google killer" application based on ChatGPT, AiBuddy, was successfully launched , providing artificial intelligence services to companies using the application to create clear and organized answers to complex questions in real time and with high conversion rates.

According to investment bank UBS, ChatGPT's popularity has skyrocketed, with an average of 24 million visits to OpenAI.com per day, making ChatGPT the fastest-growing application in the world, with the chatbot reaching 100 million monthly active users in January.

More than a fifth of visits came from India and the United States, each accounting for about 11% of traffic share, and on average, each country received an estimated 73.9 million visits in January. Other major visiting countries were France, Canada and Germany.

A spokesperson for Digital-adoption.com commented on the findings: "Similar web traffic suggests that Open AI is quickly becoming one of the largest websites in the world following its viral success.

ChatGPT has gained notoriety by being called a “Google killer” and an “AI revolution”. There is no denying how its popularity has spread like wildfire, catapulting the company to the top of global rankings in two months. Internet users are discovering new uses for chatbots every day, and with that comes questions about regulation.”

The rise of ChatGPT is a shot in the arm for the tech industry and is likely to be a much-needed boost for all tech-reliant industries, especially retail. According to Claire Trachet, M&A expert and CEO/founder of business advisory firm Trachet, the massive impact of the technological innovation sparked by ChatGPT will not only set new standards for the world of technology and AI, but will also redefine the way we interact with technology based on the wide range of applications demonstrated by users around the world.

Less than a quarter into the year, AI companies have raised or are in the process of raising more than $700 million, not including the Microsoft-OpenAI deal. Venture funding in generative AI — which uses refined computer programs to generate videos, art, conversations and other works — has increased 425% from 2020 to 2022.

Additionally, a list compiled by the Homebrew AI Club, an organization that serves as a gathering place for AI workers, lists more than 150 startups in the field that are in talks to complete deals. Last week, Google announced a deal to acquire about 10% of Anthropic — founded by former OpenAI developers and the creators of ChatGPT's main competitor, Claude. The new funding will value the San Francisco-based company at around $5 billion — a real concern for the tech investment community.

Bratin Saha, vice president of Amazon machine learning and artificial intelligence services, confirmed this, saying, "There is still a lot of innovation to be done here, and we will work with many companies to realize innovation for our customers."

Trachet concluded: “ChatGPT and other advanced AI technologies have already spurred innovation and investment in the space. As these technologies continue to develop and mature, AI technologies are likely to drive even more innovation and investment in the future. Companies and investors recognize the huge potential of AI to transform numerous industries and are eager to capitalize on this opportunity.
