Survey on social media platform preferences of American teenagers: YouTube and TikTok top the list

It is learned that recently, according to foreign media reports, a latest study by the Pew Research Center showed that 46% of American teenagers are almost always online, and the most used platforms are YouTube and TikTok.

The study pointed out that YouTube and TikTok are the platforms where teenagers spend the most time. Among them, 73% of teenagers said they use YouTube every day, while 60% use TikTok every day, and 16% are almost constantly online. In addition, Instagram and Snapchat are also at the top of the list of teenagers' favorite platforms, with 60% of teenagers using Instagram and 55% using Snapchat. The high usage rates of these platforms show the strong appeal of short video content and instant social functions among young people.

The report also shows that Instagram and WhatsApp are the only apps that have seen an increase in usage in recent years, further consolidating their position in the social media landscape. In contrast, Facebook and X (formerly Twitter) have seen a significant decline in usage among this group. Only 32% of teens currently use Facebook, a significant decrease from 71% in 2014-15. X usage has fallen from 33% a decade ago to 17% today, down from 23% in 2022. These platforms have become more focused on the needs of older users in recent years, and their appeal among younger users has significantly weakened.
