More than 2 million dehumidifiers recalled in the U.S., Canada and Mexico! Walmart sells them!

It is learned that the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has recalled 2 million dehumidifiers from more than 20 brands. The reason for the recall is that the dehumidifiers may overheat and catch fire, posing a risk of fire and burns. At present, these recalled dehumidifiers have caused at least 107 incidents, with a total property loss of US$17 million. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported.

The dehumidifiers were manufactured by a Taiwanese company called New Widetech. In addition to the more than 2 million dehumidifiers being recalled in the United States, 380,000 were recalled in Canada and 25,000 in Mexico.

The recall involves 25-, 30-, 35-, 45-, 50-, 60-, 65-, 70- and 74-pint dehumidifiers sold under the following brand names: AeonAir, Amana, ArcticAire (Danby), Classic (Danby / Home Hardware Stores), Commercial Cool, Danby, Danby Designer, Danby Premiere, De'Longhi, Edgestar, Friedrich, Generations (Danby), Haier, Honeywell (JMATEK / AirTek), Idylis, Ivation, perfectaire, SuperClima, Whirlpool and Whynter. The brand name, model number and pint capacity are printed on a sticker on the back of the dehumidifier. The recall number is 21-174.

The dehumidifiers were manufactured before September 1, 2017. They were sold at Lowe's stores, Costco, Walmart, Menards and other retailers from February 2009 to August 2017, with retail prices ranging from $120 to $430.

CPSC advises consumers to stop using the dehumidifier immediately and contact New Widetech for a refund. The refund amount will be calculated on a pro-rated basis based on the age of the dehumidifier.
