Although customs inspections have always been going on and whether or not you will be inspected depends entirely on luck, the frequency of inspections has obviously increased a lot recently compared to before. Has something big happened at the U.S. Customs?

Earlier this month, US President Trump signed a memorandum to crack down on counterfeit sales on e-commerce platforms.

The content of the memorandum directly targets major international e-commerce platforms led by Amazon, and even cites data from a White House investigation report last year, which shows that more than 30% of third-party sellers' products are suspected of selling counterfeit and copycat products.

We have analyzed the problem of counterfeit and copycat products on e-commerce platforms many times before. Amazon has also started to crack down on counterfeit and copycat products. However, it has little effect. It is common for sellers to be copied and plagiarized.

The US government also thinks so. Obviously, the government is very dissatisfied with the fact that Amazon is full of counterfeit and imitation products, as well as Amazon's weak efforts to combat counterfeiting.

Now that the Sino-US trade war is coming to an end, the US government can spare some time to crack down on Amazon, the world's largest company by market value. Trump's memorandum is the first step in the fight against counterfeit goods.

Why is it said that anti-counterfeiting actions are related to stricter customs inspections?

The memorandum explicitly requires relevant government agencies to

Investigate how counterfeit and pirated goods enter the United States and obtain data on their sources and types of counterfeit and pirated goods being sold.

That’s right, this “relevant government agency” is obviously the U.S. Customs. This is the direct reason why customs inspections have become more frequent and requirements have become more stringent recently.

Categories with a high incidence of counterfeit goods and brand infringement, such as toys, clothing, shoes and hats , are very easy to be checked. Once it is found that the customs declaration information is inconsistent, tax evasion is fraudulent, or the country of origin (MIC) is not marked, the products will be detained directly .

Especially the problem of the lack of the "Made in China" label (hereinafter referred to as the MIC label). Many sellers have been hit this time, and I would like to remind everyone here.

* The MIC label is not only to be affixed on the outer box, but each product in the box needs to have a MIC label.

* It must be in English and can be in six forms: sewing, printing, engraving, spray printing, adhesive labels, and tags.
