Primeday is over! What are the trends this year?


Amazon’s most important event of the year, Prime Day, has ended at 3 pm today. Many sellers on the US site breathed a sigh of relief and started chatting in our communication group (if you want to join the group, please scan the QR code at the end of the article).

Now that Prime Day has ended on various platforms, what are the overall results this year? What new trends should sellers pay attention to? Let’s take stock of it together.

Overall performance of Prime Day this year


This part is divided into two aspects, one is how Amazon performs, and the other is the performance of our third-party sellers.


Amazon

There is no doubt that this year's Prime Day sales will break the record of previous years. Although Amazon has not yet released the overall data, professional data agencies have given estimates.


This year's Prime Day sales will increase by 46.5% compared to last year, reaching approximately US$6.14 billion.

The US media also clearly stated in today's report that the first day of this year's Primeday was the best 24 hours for sales in Amazon's history.

The number of Prime members has also been boosted by Amazon's publicity and one-day delivery upgrades, reaching 105 million (in the United States alone) by the middle of this year, covering more than 80% of households in the United States.

For Amazon, this year's Prime Day can be said to be a double harvest of record-breaking sales and a surge in membership.


Sellers

We third-party sellers naturally benefit from the big tree and the promotion effects of many products this year are better than last year (thanks to the fact that there are no bugs in the system).


And some sellers who did not participate in LD also said that this year's exclusive discounts were quite effective, even surpassing the PD Coupon with a separate display entrance.

Generally speaking, sales on the second day are not as good as on the first day, but this is in line with consumers’ purchasing psychology. However, I also noticed that some smaller sellers may not perform well on the first day, but they can get some orders on the second day.


Regarding this phenomenon, I think that most of the traffic on the first day will be allocated by Amazon to top sellers and large-scale brand sellers, because this is the golden period for transactions, while after the first day, some of the traffic will be delegated to small sellers.


Amazon is making the Prime Day pie bigger, so that at least the sellers behind it can get a share of the profits. This may be the reason why Prime Day is getting longer and longer.


However, as soon as Primeday ended this year, many unexpected problems were exposed.

Problems and trends after the end


Data from the research organization Captify also showed that after the first day of Primeday, a large number of American netizens began searching for "Canceling Amazon Prime", and the number of searches reached about 18 times that of normal days.


This means that American netizens are ready to cancel their Prime membership after using it up once (possibly even as a trial).


Before Prime Day started, not only did Amazon's search volume increase, but even its old rivals Walmart and Best Buy saw one to two times the traffic growth.


The promotion is cancelled after the benefits are fully utilized, and prices are compared on various websites before the promotion begins. The above two signs indicate that American consumers are becoming more and more savvy (the Chinese people say they are still too savvy), and the growth of Amazon Prime will encounter certain obstacles in the coming period.


In the European and Japanese sites where there are no free events, sellers who do not participate in LD usually have less than ideal sales. Therefore, the free event will definitely be promoted to these two sites, but it will not have to wait until next year's Prime Day as sellers think.


The Prime-exclusive flash sales that were quite eye-catching in this year’s free event actually allowed you to choose the effective date when you first started testing it, but when it was later opened directly, you could only choose the Prime Day itself.


I speculate that this event will most likely remain in the background as a new discount method , and Japan and European sites may not have to wait until next year's Prime Day to enjoy this event.
