Amazon implements new rules! Failure to comply is considered illegal!

Let’s start today’s main text.

◆ ◆ ◆ ◆

In the middle of last month, Amazon sent a group email to sellers on its European site, stating that new policies will be announced for the CE certification system, and sellers will be required to implement the new policies in a timely manner to ensure that their products comply with the EU's updated CE regulations.

Since July, sellers on the European site have received email notifications from Amazon, stating that the new CE policy has been announced and requires sellers who use CE certificates to sell products to upload the information of the European responsible person , otherwise it will be considered illegal!

New regulations for CE certified products

This email is not sent to a group of sellers, but will be sent after identifying the categories and brands sold by the sellers. It should be received by sellers of categories that require CE certification. The content is to remind sellers that if they want to continue to sell products with CE mark and manufactured outside the EU in the EU, they need to provide the information of the person in charge in the EU.

The new EU regulations will take effect in July next year, so sellers still have plenty of time to prepare. However, if you continue to sell CE products without EU contact information after the regulations take effect, Amazon will consider it illegal.

Although the email did not say what would happen, the store would be closed and the products would be removed from the shelves. In addition, since this is a violation of EU regulations, it is not impossible that the store will be closed and the company will be held accountable.

Amazon has also updated the relevant pages in its backend. Here we can see more detailed information, such as the specific effective date is July 16, 2021; the information of the EU contact person/person in charge can be affixed to the product, or printed on the product packaging and accompanying documents such as instructions, etc. European sellers can go to the relevant backend pages to view the detailed content.

You need to know about CE certification

The CE mark is a self-certification mark. If you do not have your own factory, you need to contact the manufacturer. Generally, compliant manufacturers will have clear instructions and regulations for this mark.

Many products sold in the EU need the CE mark, because CE is a compulsory certification. If a product that needs certification but is not certified is exported to the EU, it will be directly confiscated by customs and face a high fine. After July 16 next year, products with CE certification but no EU contact person are likely to suffer the same consequences.

Therefore, it is best for sellers to find upstream suppliers to solve this problem. If it is a free factory, the following steps are required to obtain CE certification.

1. Determine applicable directives and harmonized standards

2. Verify product-specific requirements

3. Determine whether an independent conformity assessment is required (by a designated body)

4. Test the product and check its eligibility

5. Draft and retain required technical documentation

6. Affix the CE mark and draw up the EU Declaration of Conformity.

Generally, the major products that need CE certification are toys and personal care products. Some electronic products with built-in batteries also need CE certification. This compliance is very important. Before and after the implementation of the new CE regulations in July next year, the goods will definitely be inspected more strictly , so you must make sure whether your products need to pass CE certification!
