Big new rules! Revealing the truth about ID scanning, Amazon sellers may have to undergo a second review every year?
Since the end of last month, a new round of account scanning has been sweeping many Amazon sellers. According to feedback from multiple parties, many sellers have recently received Amazon account verification emails, and are required to provide relevant information for review within 60 days, otherwise they will face the risk of account suspension.

It seems that Amazon has become a regular practice to clean up accounts on the eve of the peak season sales. This round of account cleaning involves a wide range of people, and most of the accounts that triggered the review are old accounts. As the situation continues to ferment, Amazon released a new regulation announcement today, which may be inextricably linked to this account verification incident.

Big new rule! Will Amazon sellers be subject to a second review every year?

On May 11, Amazon US disclosed the latest announcement: the US Consumer Notification Act will take effect on June 27, 2023. The law stipulates that high-volume third-party sellers are obliged to provide their business information, and Amazon is required to collect, verify and disclose this information.

Under the Consumer Notification Act, Amazon sellers should specifically follow the following provisions:

1. Applicable sellers

New product (or used product) sales have reached (or exceeded) 200 units for 12 consecutive months in the past 24 months, and the total transaction amount exceeds US$5,000 .

2. Specific information requirements

  • Seller identity information
  • Government-issued ID mail
  • Company Address
  • Bank account information
  • A valid email address, phone number, and tax identification number
  • The above information must be the seller's business name or the seller's legally authorized personal representative.

3. Seller Verification Requirements

Amazon will conduct an annual information verification on all sellers that meet the relevant requirements to ensure the accuracy of corporate information. Sellers must take relevant actions according to the content of the email within the specified time, otherwise Amazon may deduct the payment or deactivate the sales account according to the requirements of the new law.

From the above information, we can see that after the implementation of the new regulations, additional review requirements will be put forward on Amazon’s original account verification process, and sellers who meet the requirements must undergo verification once a year to ensure the authenticity of the account identity information.

Looking at recent account verification incidents, a large number of sellers with old accounts registered in 21 years or before have received verification notifications, and they need to submit bank account, business license and other information to reactivate their accounts. Many sellers speculate that this large-scale account scanning incident may be related to the new Consumer Notification Law that is about to be implemented.

"The best way to eliminate fear is to face it. From now on, everyone will have a second trial every year, so there is no need to worry at all."
"Now everyone has to undergo an audit every year, so the purchased account is useless."
"The bill that was enacted says $20,000, but Amazon has expanded the policy."
"We are also a legitimate operation, and all the materials are authentic. However, we were scanned this time. We have not passed KYC for 8 times, and we have been asked to provide additional materials. What should we do with the old account registered with a personal ID card? Amazon should issue another notice to explain."

According to the specific rules of the Consumer Notification Act, sellers on third-party e-commerce platforms such as Amazon, eBay, and Walmart are required to verify their accounts every year. This also sends a signal that the platform's account risk control will be further upgraded, and account transactions will also be controlled, which will be beneficial to maintaining the business environment to a certain extent.

For sellers who operate in compliance with regulations, they can generally pass the verification process by submitting relevant information in accordance with regulations. However, on the other hand, some sellers have problems such as business license changes and using personal identity information to register stores, which have led to verification bottlenecks.

It’s difficult for individual sellers to pass account verification.

At present, a large number of sellers are still stuck in the quagmire of account verification. A personal seller who registered in 2018 said that his backend prompted him to re-verify his account, but after clicking it, a warning appeared : "We have a technical problem and it will return to normal soon. If you need any help or have any questions, please contact sales partner support." The seller tried to contact the US team by opening a case, but received no response.

Some sellers also consulted customer service and received a reply: Amazon officially does not support individual sellers in China to sell.

The most common problems at present mainly include two aspects: one is that the personal identity information registered cannot be verified, and the other is that the business license and other related information have changed. Here are some solutions for sellers.

1. Individual seller registration

  • Open a case with customer service, request a link for personal information review, and submit your ID card and credit card bill
  • First register for a business license, then change the original personal information in the background to the company. It is recommended to register a business license

2. Change of business license

  • Log in to Amazon Seller Central and find "Settings" - "Account Information" - "Merchant Information".
  • On the business information page, find the business license column and click "Edit".
  • In the pop-up window, modify the business license address and upload the latest business license picture.
  • Click the "Save" button to save your changes.

Judging from the current overall trend, the registration review of Amazon accounts will become increasingly stringent. Whether it is buying and selling accounts or registering accounts with personal information, it is inevitable that they will be affected by the iron fist.
