Big sale out of stock warning! Many Amazon warehouses are seriously overstocked

Big sale out of stock warning! Many Amazon warehouses are seriously overstocked

It is learned that the Eastern Longshoremen's Association (ILA) and the American Maritime Association have recently reached a preliminary agreement. According to the latest plan, the main contract will be extended to January 15, 2025, and the workers' basic hourly wages will increase by about 62% within six years. At present, the striking members of the union have stopped the strike and resumed port work.

Since the East Coast Port is a relatively important node for the global supply chain, as the strike came to an end and the logistics crisis was resolved, cross-border sellers couldn't help but feel relieved.

However, one wave of troubles has not yet subsided when another wave of troubles arises. Another piece of logistics-related news that has recently come out in the industry has also attracted keen attention.

It is learned that recently, a notice about the US Customs' strict inspection of FBA cargo labels has been trending in the cross-border circle.

The notice stated that due to the recent strict inspections by U.S. Customs on multiple consignees, the company name will sometimes be displayed after the destination on the FBA labels sent to Amazon. Once the customs discovers this, they will require the use of the corresponding company's importer tax number to complete customs clearance, otherwise there will be a risk of rejection and return of the shipment .

At present, many freight forwarders have released relevant information and suggested that sellers, if the company name is displayed on the FBA label:
  • Before printing, you can delete the company name and then print the label;

  • After printing, the company name can be covered with a marker to avoid affecting customs clearance of goods.

The picture comes from the seller’s disclosure

It is understood that "multiple consignees" refers to the situation where, in complex freight situations, the consignee shown on the waybill may be an agent or freight forwarder, rather than the final consignee. In cross-border freight, when the agent helps the seller to clear customs, it mostly uses the agent's letterhead, which often does not match the seller's company name on the FBA label.

It is not difficult to predict that once the U.S. Customs conducts strict inspections on "multiple consignees", a large number of goods will be affected.

Therefore, the news quickly sparked heated discussions in the industry. Since the operation of "removing the company name from the FBA label" is relatively cumbersome and cannot completely avoid the risk of inspection, many sellers are confirming the authenticity of the news.

According to some freight forwarders, some containers have been inspected due to this issue . The US Customs requires customs clearance based on the company name and tax number on the FBA container mark. Some containers have not successfully resolved the problem even after being inspected for more than a month.

But more industry insiders believe that the news is not true: on the one hand, customs' strict inspection of "multiple consignees" is a low-probability event that has always existed, rather than a sudden new change ; on the other hand, customs has many ways to check the authenticity of importers, and the possibility of focusing on checking "multiple consignees" is not great.

From this point of view, the authenticity of the recent online notification is questionable. Sellers do not need to worry too much for the time being. If you are really worried, you can delete the company name on the FBA label as recommended by the freight forwarder and pay attention to customs clearance compliance.

As the peak season approaches, cross-border sellers are preparing for the season and are also paying more attention to logistics. In addition to being affected by strikes and online customs inspection notices, Amazon's occasional warehouse explosions are also an important factor.

It is learned that according to industry insiders, in recent times, many of Amazon's warehouses have been overwhelmed again , with contract cancellations, contract jumps, and inability to deliver goods to warehouses, causing a series of negative chain reactions such as delayed warehousing, slow shelving, and backlogs of goods.

The picture comes from the seller’s disclosure

According to the information from freight forwarders, the warehouses that are currently experiencing warehouse explosions are mainly:

1. Western United States

  • ABQ2: Severe liquidation, refused to accept, no release at present;

  • ONT8, SBD1, MIT2, GEU3, PSC2: fewer postponements and releases;

  • LAX9, LGB8, GYR2: There are cases of postponed appointments.

2. Eastern US
  • TPA2, AVP1, MEM1: There is a postponement of appointments, and the appointment will be released one week later;

  • ABE8: Severe margin call, contract approval will take at least three weeks.

Among them, ABQ2 and PSC2 , which are the most severely affected warehouses in the western United States, are new warehouses that Amazon officially put into use in August. However, according to sellers’ feedback, since the end of August, these two new warehouses have frequently experienced cancellation of appointments, rejection of delivery, and delay in listing.

The picture comes from the seller’s disclosure

In fact, due to factors such as bad weather, labor shortages, and geopolitical conflicts, the industry has frequently reported warehouse overflows and serious delays in shelf placement since May this year. As of mid-October, this series of warehouse overflows has not been alleviated, resulting in a large number of sellers experiencing warehouse delays, out-of-stock, or even missing out on big sales .

It is understood that the Prime members' autumn promotion on multiple Amazon sites was scheduled to be held from October 8 to 9, and has now officially ended. Although the overall promotion effect is not as good as Prime Day in July, some Amazon sellers still saw a 41% year-on-year increase in revenue during this period.

Many sellers reported that they missed the big promotion due to shortage of stock in the transfer warehouse :
"The autumn sale is over, and the goods prepared for the autumn sale are still on the way. It seems that I can only sell them on Black Friday."
"This year's configuration fees have not been reduced at all, and the warehousing efficiency has not improved at all."

Judging from the current warehouse explosion situation, it will take a long time for these Amazon warehouses to resume normal operations.

As Black Friday and Cyber Monday are approaching, in order to avoid missing out on these two key year-end promotions due to out-of-stock situations, we would like to remind all sellers to try to avoid the above-mentioned warehouses with serious overcapacity, pay more attention to the operation status of goods, and adjust the shipping plans in time according to the situation to avoid losses.
