USPS suspends parcel delivery to Canada, and recommends sellers to use other logistics methods

It is learned that recently, the United States Postal Service (USPS) announced that it will suspend the delivery of mail and parcels to Canada from November 29, 2024. USPS stated that the reason for the suspension of delivery is that the Canadian Postal Union is conducting a nationwide strike, which has prevented external postal operators from processing parcels or delivering international mail.

This move coincides with the peak holiday shipping season and may have a greater impact on cross-border e-commerce sellers, especially those shipping to Canada. To meet this challenge, sellers are advised to consider using other logistics companies such as GlobalPost, UPS or DHL Express to ensure timely delivery of orders.

The USPS said that the affected services include Priority Mail International (PMEI), Priority Mail International (PMI), First-Class Mail International (FCMI), First-Class Parcel International Service (FCPIS), International Priority Airmail (IPA), International Surface Air (ISAL), Commercial ePacket (CeP) and M-Bag items, among other international postal services.

The strike has already had an impact on mail delivery. Currently, all mail entering Canada is still being received at the airport, but mail delivery within Canada has been halted due to the strike. International mail received as of November 15 is still sitting in mailboxes and has not been processed.

USPS said it will continue to monitor the situation and provide customers with updates until Canada Post resumes normal operations.
