Decoding the 2021 US online shopping trends under the epidemic! These categories are growing fastest

It is learned that according to the latest data from eMarketer, as the epidemic continues to spread in the United States in 2021, e-commerce sales continue to rise. Data shows that in 2021, e-commerce sales in the United States will make up 15.5% of the total retail sales of 5.856 trillion US dollars, reaching 908.73 billion US dollars.


According to eMarketer, the fastest-growing category in online sales in the first few months of 2021 was apparel and accessories, which grew 18.9% to $183 billion. This growth suggests that consumers purchased many of these products online during the 2021 lockdown, and that this trend will continue until the end of 2021.


Online sales in the food and beverage category increased by 18.1% year-over-year to $53 billion in the first few months of 2021. Notably, online sales of apparel and accessories grew faster than food and beverages. Additionally, online sales of health, personal care, and beauty products increased by 16% to $85 billion in the first few months of 2021 compared to 2020.


Online sales of auto parts and toys and hobbies categories increased by 13.5% and 13.1% respectively. The toys and hobbies category accounted for 45.4% of the total retail sales in the first few months of 2021, ranking third among all categories, second only to computers and consumer electronics (53.2%) and books/music/video products (69.1%).

 

The Books/Music/Video product category grew 12.5% ​​in the first few months of 2021 compared to 2020, with total online sales reaching nearly $54 billion. This was followed by the Furniture and Home Furnishings category, with online sales increasing 12.3% year-over-year in the first few months of 2021 to nearly $106 billion.


According to eMarketer data, online sales of computers and consumer electronics increased by 9.1%, pet supplies increased by 7.1%, and cosmetics and beauty products increased by 9.7%. Finally, office equipment and supplies increased by 8.5% in the first few months of 2021 compared to 2020. In the first few months of 2021, online sales of computers and consumer electronics reached $195 billion, pet supplies reached $1.6 billion, cosmetics and beauty products reached $13 billion, and office equipment and supplies reached nearly $19 billion.
