Function

1. Network storage service (similar to Baidu Netdisk)

Dropbox provides online storage space, and newly registered users have 2GB of free space (or 2.5GB of free space).

Convenient picture and video sharing, with its own album function, online viewing of uploaded pictures, and sharing of links with family and friends for viewing.

2. Network backup tools

The way Dropbox works is to automatically back up designated folders in the background. When you modify or update a file, Dropbox will automatically monitor the file changes and upload the latest backup file.

3. File synchronization tool

Dropbox files are stored in the cloud, so as long as you log in to your Dropbox client on other devices, you can access and manage your files on Dropbox.

Acquisitions

In July 2012, Dropbox acquired TapEngage, a startup that "enables advertisers and publishers to collaborate on tablet-optimized advertising."

In March 2013, Dropbox acquired the company that developed the email management application Mailbox. In December 2015, Dropbox announced the closure of Mailbox.

In November 2013, Dropbox acquired the mobile phone e-commerce company Sold.

In April 2014, Dropbox acquired photo service Loom and file sharing service Hackpad.

In May 2014, Dropbox acquired Bubbli, a startup that had "built some innovative ways of incorporating 3D technology into 2D views and packaging them into mobile apps."

In January 2015, Dropbox acquired CloudOn, a company that provided mobile applications for document editing and creation.

In January 2015, Dropbox announced the acquisition of Pixelapse, a version control solution.

Financing

In 2007, Sequoia Capital invested in Dropbox's seed round.

In September 2011, Dropbox completed a $250 million Series B financing round led by Index Ventures, and Dropbox's valuation reached $4 billion.

Dropbox received another investment in January 2014, when it closed a $350 million round from BlackRock and other investors to help it take on fast-growing competitor Box.

In April 2014, Dropbox received a large amount of credit financing of more than US$500 million, led by JP Morgan.

In March 2017, Dropbox received another $600 million in debt financing from JPMorgan Chase, which means that Dropbox's total debt to JPMorgan Chase reached $1.1 billion.

In February 2018, Dropbox filed for an IPO. Dropbox announced that the number of registered users reached 500 million, of which 11 million were paying users.

In 2012, Dropbox also won the "Best Cloud Computing Service" award, while Houston was the runner-up for "Entrepreneur of the Year."

In September 2012, Facebook and Dropbox integrated, allowing users in Facebook groups to share files using Dropbox.

In March 2013, the company acquired Mailbox, a popular email app, and launched Dropbox Carousel, a photo and video gallery app, in April 2014. Both Mailbox and Carousel were shut down in December 2015.

In October 2015, Dropbox officially announced its Dropbox Paper document editor, and the company was reportedly working on expanding its business to enterprises. As of March 2016, Dropbox has 500 million users.

In November 2014, Dropbox announced a partnership with Microsoft to integrate Dropbox and Microsoft Office applications into Office 365 applications on iOS, Android, and the web.

In August 2015, Dropbox announced the launch of its "Universal 2nd Factor" USB security key, which provides two-factor authentication for logging into its service.

In July 2016, Dropbox announced a new "AdminX" administrator dashboard for business customers, improving control over company files and users.

In June 2017, the AdminX dashboard received a redesign and additional administrator features, such as login durations.

In March 2018, the US cloud storage company Dropbox was officially listed on the Nasdaq on Friday with the stock code "DBX". Dropbox's listing was the largest technology company IPO since Snap, and its stock price rose 36% on the first day of trading. It closed at $28.48 per share, with a market value of more than $11 billion. At a time when the US-China trade war caused a sharp drop in the US stock market, investors were also worried that Dropbox's offering price was lower than the $10 billion valuation given by private investors when it raised funds.

On July 10, 2018, Dropbox announced a partnership with Salesforce to increase brand engagement and team productivity.
