According to Amazon's official notice, starting from September 30, 2020 , sellers will no longer need to provide a letter of certification from the brand owner when applying for UPC exemption. We need to provide the product name, pictures showing each side of the product, and pictures of each side of the product packaging. Amazon says that the UPC exemption process has been simplified. But in reality, the requirements for new sellers are higher. We need to get more authentic and complete products and packaging to increase the pass rate of UPC exemption. 1. Preparation and related materials for applying for UPC exemption If you want to apply for brand exemption, you must first prepare one of the following two materials as required: 1: With the product name and at least two (maximum nine) pictures showing all sides of the product and the product packaging 2: A clear and visible letter from the brand owner, manufacturer or publisher (in the relevant site language) 3. Non-branded goods without a GTIN. For example, wholesale goods 4. Parts without a global trade item number. For example, some auto parts do not have a global trade item number. 5. Bundled products without a GTIN. For example, a customized bundled product may not have a GTIN. 6. To correctly create a bundled product, please refer to the Product Bundling Policy before applying for a Global Trade Item Number exemption . 7. There should be no GS1 -approved barcodes on the goods and product packaging . If there are GS1 -approved barcodes, the goods can be published using the barcodes without applying for a Global Trade Item Code exemption . 2. Process of applying for UPC exemption United States: https://sellercentral.amazon.com/gtinx/browser Europe: https://sellercentral.amazon.co.uk/gtinx/browser You need to apply once for each European site. For example, if you apply for an exemption in the German backend, it may only notify you that Germany is exempted, and EAN is still required when listing in France , so you have to do it again for France ~ 1. Search in the upper right corner of Amazon backend: Apply for Global Trade Program Code 2. Pull down and click: How to publish... 3. Pull down and click: Apply for Global Trade Item Number Exemption 4. Select the category of your product 5. You can select multiple categories, but it is not recommended. Enter the trademark name you want to register or have registered, and check the eligibility 6. Continue to submit proof 7. Enter the product name, add the product with the logo and pictures of each side of the package. Finally submit the application Amazon will respond to you by email within 48 hours, and you can also check the status of your request in the case log. Once your exemption is approved, you can upload products in the applied category without UPC. It is recommended that you add products after 24 hours. The exemption is valid for only 1 month or 3 months. During the validity period, there is no need to reapply when adding products of the same brand or category again. After the validity period, if you want to exempt other categories of products, you must go through the exemption process again (the previous exemption will not be affected after its expiration). Sellers must have been approved to list products in that category to apply for a UPC exemption. Generally, sellers must have a sales history on Amazon before Amazon will consider granting an exemption. Applying for a UPC exemption in a specific category must be done separately from applying for approval to sell products.
