Amazon updates its compliance policy! New sites will have new outlets

Just in the past two days, Amazon Japan has released the latest compliance policy changes! Effective from the date of the announcement (16th)!

The new changes have lowered the target age for products that require document review in the "Children's Toys" category. It has been changed from under 15 years old (14 years old and below) to under 14 years old (13 years old and below)!

This policy means that if the seller's children's toys are aimed at children aged 14 and above, before the policy change, they need to provide relevant safety documents issued by a testing laboratory or organization recognized by Amazon. After the age requirement is lowered, products targeting children aged 14 and above do not need to provide this document.

The review of children's product categories is indeed very troublesome and involves many safety issues. This time, Amazon has lowered the threshold, allowing many toy products for target groups of 14 years old and above to be exempted from safety document review, which will definitely save a lot of cost and energy for toy category sellers.

In the just-concluded Black Friday and Cyber Monday, the toys category was undoubtedly the dark horse category. According to the peak season data released by Amazon, the toys category had the largest sales and the fastest growth during the Black Friday and Cyber Monday in 2022, with a growth rate of more than 210%! Many toy products have become phenomenally popular products. In addition, Amazon has lowered the threshold this time, and the vertical toy category will definitely continue to maintain a rapid growth trend this year.

In addition, Amazon’s first new site plan this year was also exposed.

Amazon plans to open new site in February

Recently, there have been reports that Amazon's plan to launch a South African site in February 2023 has undergone some changes. When the project was exposed last year, it was codenamed "Project Fela", and it simultaneously launched supporting FBA services for third-party sellers who registered stores in South Africa, and the Prime membership program would then be open to South African consumers.

Along with the South African site, there is also a site in Nigeria, another African country. However , after Amazon's fiscal deficit and huge losses last year, internal sources revealed that Amazon has canceled the Nigeria site plan, but the South African site will proceed as scheduled. Amazon's local warehouse logistics system planning is almost complete, and we will have to wait until we start recruiting investors to investigate the coverage rate and timeliness.

In short, South Africa once had one foot in the ranks of developed countries and is the most prosperous country in Africa. The consumption level here is still higher than that in Southeast Asia, and the acceptance of overseas products is also good. The only drawback is that the Internet and e-commerce are still relatively low.

As of 21 years, there are 41.19 million Internet users in South Africa, with an Internet penetration rate of 68.2%. 45% of South Africans go online for more than 4 hours a day, mainly through mobile phones. There are 24.3 million e-commerce users in South Africa, with an e-commerce penetration rate of 41.1%, and e-commerce market revenue of US$6.69 billion. It is a medium-level developing country market with a low ceiling but acceptable customer unit price. Sellers who want to tap into the mid-range market can consider the South African site.
