According to foreign media reports, on March 17, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced the recall of DigitDots magnetic balls. The reason for the recall is that young children may accidentally swallow two or more magnetic balls, which may lead to intestinal perforation, twisting or obstruction, infection, blood poisoning and death. This is because the ingested magnetic balls will attract each other, or cause children to be attracted to a certain metal object in the outside world and remain in the digestive system. The report said that the recall involves DigitDots magnetic balls with product specifications of 3 mm and 5 mm, which have the following characteristics: small, spherical, loose and separable neodymium rare earth. The magnetic balls with a diameter of 3 mm are sold in groups of 512 magnetic balls. The magnetic balls with a diameter of 5 mm are sold in groups of 222 silver magnetic balls. The magnetic box comes with a disposable transparent packaging and is printed with the "DigitDots" name and logo. The following product pictures: It is reported that the recalled magnetic balls were sold on online websites such as www.ilovedigitdots.com and www.amazon.com from March 2019 to January 2022, with a price range of US$20-30, and approximately 119,620 balls were sold. It is learned that these magnetic balls are all produced in China and imported by HD Premier Inc. At present, HD Premier Inc. has received 4 reports of children requiring surgery after accidentally ingesting them, including 2 reports of death. HD Premier is aware of four children who ingested DigitDots and required surgery to remove the magnets. Additionally, CPSC is aware of other reports of children and teens who ingested high-energy magnets from other companies and required surgery, including two deaths. CPSC recommends that buyers stop using the product immediately and contact HD Premier for a full refund. Buyers need to prepay postage, and HD Premier will provide customers with a full refund, including postage, once they receive the product.
