Mexico Christmas shopping trends: Amazon and Mercado are the top platforms

It is learned that recently, according to the "Christmas 2024" research report released by Kantar, Mexicans' enthusiasm for festivals remains high, with 87% of Mexicans planning to celebrate Christmas, mainly with family gatherings, combining traditional customs with modern consumerism.



The report shows that this year, Mexicans plan to spend an average of 5,522 pesos on Christmas gifts, and are expected to buy about 31 gifts. Amazon (75%) and Mercado Libre (68%) and other platforms have become the first choice for online shopping for more and more Mexican consumers. 61% of respondents said they would use their Christmas budget for Christmas dinner, and 73% would use it to buy Christmas gifts.



The study also revealed some new trends in Mexican consumer behavior: social networks are increasingly influential in shopping decisions, with 51% of respondents planning to buy Christmas gifts through social platforms.



When it comes to Christmas gift choices, clothing and footwear (64%), toys (49%) and accessories (40%) remain the most popular categories. However, demand for travel, catering, electronics and household items has also increased. Consumers are more value-conscious and are more focused on buying products and services that offer value for money.



Overall, Christmas celebrations in Mexico are both deeply traditional and influenced by modern consumerism. Brands that can resonate with consumers’ emotions and needs will be able to gain significant market share during this festive season.
