According to foreign media reports, on January 26, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced the recall of 800 bottles of Geri-Care Brand over-the-counter drugs, including acetaminophen and aspirin. The reason for the recall is that the packaging of these drugs does not meet the requirements of the Poison Prevention Packaging Act (PPPA), which will cause poisoning risks if children accidentally ingest them. According to reports, the specifications of the two over-the-counter drugs are different. Each bottle of acetaminophen weighs 500 mg and has 1,000 tablets. Aspirin has multiple specifications: each bottle weighs 81 mg and has 300 or 1,000 tablets; each bottle weighs 325 mg and has 250 or 1,000 tablets. As shown in the following table: The drugs were sold on 18 online websites, including Amazon, eBay, and SimplyMedical, with prices ranging from $2 to $10. The CPSC has not received any reports of accidents involving the product. CPSC recommends that consumers immediately keep the product out of the sight and reach of children and contact the manufacturer, Geri-Care Pharmaceuticals, as soon as possible for a full refund or replacement.
