Amazon warehouses may be closed! Will the epidemic break out again after resuming work?

Although the number of confirmed cases in the United States is still rising steadily, the United States has begun to resume work under the leadership of Trump. If the epidemic is not under control, resuming work will most likely lead to a second wave of the epidemic.

Moreover, as Amazon warehouses are densely populated, they will definitely be the focus of government epidemic prevention and control when they resume work. If there are unfavorable epidemic prevention measures or occasional confirmed cases, the consequences will be serious.

Amazon has gotten into such big trouble in the past two days because it refused the state government staff's testing and tracking of local FBA warehouses. The Wisconsin government warned that Amazon might close its FBA warehouses in the state.

Affected FBA warehouses

According to the Wisconsin government, nearly 20 Amazon employees in the state have tested positive for the coronavirus as of last week. Local health officials said they are trying to gain access to Amazon warehouses and offices for tracking and monitoring. However, Amazon has been refusing government personnel access to local facilities, and it is unclear whether Amazon has implemented epidemic prevention measures.

The local government has therefore warned Amazon that if it continues to refuse the government's relevant epidemic prevention work, it will forcibly close facilities located in the epidemic-stricken areas , including the FBA operation center and the Amazon office in the Kenosha campus.

I checked and found that there is only one FBA operation center in Wisconsin, MKE1. Although it is not a popular warehouse, if you have products here, it is best to be prepared for the follow-up.

Amazon is confronting the government so directly. Could it be that the situation at local FBA warehouses has become so serious that it cannot be exposed?

Amazon’s COVID-19 Problem

According to statistics from insiders, there are nearly one thousand confirmed cases among Amazon employees nationwide, and according to the latest official news, eight of these confirmed cases have died.

Despite the serious situation, Amazon still refuses to disclose the detailed number of infections . A spokesperson claims that this number is of no value. Amazon's infection rate has always been lower than that of the local community. As long as there is a risk of infection, we will warn employees in advance in the form of text messages.

I collected some confirmed data on the number of Amazon infections and private statistics, and found that the official data and private data are not too different. For example, the official data in Wisconsin is 19, and the private statistics are close to 30. So even if Amazon is concealing the truth, the actual infection situation in the FBA warehouse will not be particularly exaggerated.

Amazon has expanded its recruitment twice in the past two months, adding 200,000 jobs, with a total of about 400,000 warehouse blue-collar jobs. Even if 2,000 people are infected, the infection rate is only 0.5%, which is a very good result for a warehouse with intensive work scenes.

Therefore, there must be other reasons why the Wisconsin warehouse refused to cooperate with local epidemic prevention work. It is not simply that the epidemic prevention work did not meet the standards. I believe that the MKE1 warehouse will not be forced to close by the government.

Therefore, Amazon’s biggest problem in fighting the epidemic now is the lack of transparency in information. As for the epidemic prevention measures in its warehouses, Amazon has done a good job. We should not have to worry about another wave of suspension of warehousing/delivery for the time being.
