Latest research: 89% of high-income American consumers prefer to use coupons and discount codes

It is learned that on June 24, according to foreign media reports, a new study shows that 54% of American online consumers have increased their use of coupons and discount codes in the past year, mainly influenced by personal circumstances such as economic factors, employment status, income and family size.

According to Simply Codes' 2024 Coupon Code Sentiment Study, 64% of American consumers actively look for and use coupons and discount codes when shopping online. Nearly 70% of American consumers said they would be more willing to click the "Buy" button when they get a discount code. 83% of consumers expect to use promotional discount codes more frequently when shopping online in the future.

In terms of shopping preferences, clothing and footwear are the most frequently purchased product category by American consumers online, accounting for 65%, followed by personal care, body care and cosmetics (53%) and food, groceries and beverages (46%).

In addition, the study shows that there are significant differences in shopping behavior among households with different incomes. Compared with households with incomes below six figures, households with incomes above $125,000 are more likely to actively look for and use discount codes when shopping online. Among consumers with incomes between $175,000 and $199,900, the proportion of people who use coupon discount codes is the highest, reaching 89%. Among consumers with incomes between $10,000 and $24,999, only 53% said they would do so.

There are also differences in online shopping habits and coupon usage among U.S. consumers of different ages. Consumers aged 18-29 are more likely to be influenced by offers, with 46% saying that a store's discount code would prompt them to shop there. In contrast, only 36% of consumers aged 30-44 and only 30% of consumers aged 45-60 were influenced by this.
