Development History

BukaLapak was originally a division of a digital agency called Suitmedia founded by AchmadZaky. It was spun off from Suitmedia in September 2011 as a limited liability company. It then entered a Jakarta startup incubator called "Batavia" and received its early financing. In 2015, media group EMTEK became the majority shareholder, owning 49% of Bukalapak.

In September 2012, additional investment funds were obtained from GreeVentures.

In March 2014, Bukalapak announced that it had received Series B investment from Aucfan, IREP, 500 Startups, and of course Gree Venture.

In 2015, Bukalapak received an investment of 439 billion rupiah (about 35 million U.S. dollars) from Indonesian media giant EMTEK, completing its B round of financing, with EMTEK Group acquiring a 49% stake.

In 2017, Indonesian e-commerce Bukalapak became Indonesia's new unicorn after an undisclosed round of financing.
