Osius in Racine, Wisconsin, and was named after two men Osius hired, Louis Hamilton and Chester Beach. He hired Hamilton as the new company's advertising manager and Beach as a machinist. Osius didn't care for his name, so he paid Hamilton and Beach $1,000 for the right to use their names. The company primarily sold products invented and patented by Osius, but Chester Beach had invented a high-speed fractional motor in 1905 that the company used in many of its products. Osius designed the blender for the company's first milkshake machine, the Cyclone Drink Mixer, introduced in 1910. Hamilton and Beach left the company in 1913 to form their own company, the Wisconsin Electric Company. In 1922, Osius sold Hamilton-Beach to Scovill Manufacturing and moved to Millionaires' Row in Miami Beach. Hamilton Beach drink mixers with their characteristic spindles and metal containers are found in soda fountains in drug stores across North America. Other products include stand mixers (for making batter), fans, and hair dryers. The spindle drink mixers were expanded in the 1930s to handle multiple milkshakes at once. The original company continues as Hamilton Beach Brands, Inc. All Hamilton Beach appliances have been manufactured by subcontractors in China since the 2000s. References |
