Walmart seller benefits are coming again, and logistics costs are reduced again!

In order to improve transportation efficiency, Walmart recently teamed up with Silicon Valley autonomous driving startup Gatik to operate two unmanned automatic box trucks for delivery. This move will directly reduce logistics costs for all sellers. This technology also announced that Walmart may surpass Amazon's FBA, which will also bring cost benefits to sellers.

Driverless delivery

The cooperation between the two companies is mainly to solve the transportation of goods within the supply chain. In fact, the most common is from the warehouse to the fulfillment center, or from the warehouse to a retailer. If this cooperation can go smoothly, it may be a milestone. At present, Gatik's trucks are loaded with online grocery orders from Walmart distribution centers. These two vehicles circulate 7 miles a day for 12 hours without drivers. In this way, it provides an efficient, safe and sustainable solution for transporting goods on repeated routes between Walmart stores.

From this perspective, the Walmart platform may use logistics and transportation as a breakthrough point to catch up with Amazon. However, if you analyze it carefully, you will find that Walmart's WFS and Amazon's FBA still have many similarities. This is also a process for Walmart to go from "copying" to "surpassing" .

Similarities between WFS and FBA

Many sellers think that Walmart has put a lot of effort into logistics. In fact, in many processes, Walmart's logistics are very similar to Amazon's.

1. Provide 2-day free shipping and returns

Walmart sellers can offer customers free 2-day shipping, just like Amazon FBA. Walmart will pick, pack, ship, and deliver the order to the customer within two days. There is not much difference between the two!

2. Manage customer support for sellers

Just like Amazon's FBA, Walmart will also manage customer service and return requests for all WFS orders on behalf of sellers, which can greatly save sellers a lot of operational time.

3. Item Page Content

This is a little different. On Amazon, sellers need to register their brand to create A+ Content. On Walmart, sellers only need to use FWS to be eligible to use Item Page Content, which is equivalent to the Walmart version of A+ Content.

4. Walmart+

Walmart's Walmart+ membership service costs $98 and includes same-day delivery of groceries and other general merchandise, fuel discounts, early access to offers, etc., which is almost in direct competition with Amazon Prime.

In the early days, Walmart’s platform borrowed a lot from Amazon, but because the two parties may have different philosophies, Walmart began to differ in the later period, such as in the area of logistics.

Benefits Walmart provides to sellers

Walmart always takes sellers as the benchmark, which is completely different from Amazon's "customer first" philosophy. Let's take the most basic example. Regardless of whether Walmart sellers use WFS services, they need to apply for and obtain approval before they can sell on the platform. This means that there will be relatively less competition with other sellers, and it will not be like Amazon where many sellers survive by relying on internal competition.

Walmart has also implemented a simple cost structure that includes a fixed monthly storage fee and logistics and distribution prices, which are calculated based on the product's shipping weight. Amazon's storage fees are based on the amount of inventory sellers currently store in its warehouses, and logistics fees are calculated based on the weight and size of the product.

The biggest benefit for Walmart is that there are fewer sellers now, mainly due to Walmart's policy. Each Walmart seller has about 27,000 visitors per month, while Amazon sellers only have visitors per month. This also means that the Walmart platform is not so saturated. Walmart sellers have 13 times more visits per month than Amazon sellers.

In addition, Walmart has now launched driverless delivery, which not only helps sellers reduce costs, but also greatly increases exposure in terms of traffic. Currently, Walmart's opportunities are far greater than Amazon.
