Walmart is launching a back-to-school celebration called "Homecoming" on the TikTok short video platform. By Tuesday, August 24, users submit a Tiktok video explaining why their favorite teacher deserves recognition. Walmart will select 100 nominees to reward Walmart gift cards and school supplies worth $5,000.
Additionally, on Tuesday, September 7 at 8:30 p.m., Walmart will close out the celebration with a livestream event hosted by actors Noah Schnapp and Madison Bailey, and featuring a live performance by country star Kane Brown.
The event will offer exclusive back-to-school prizes and purchasable content to online attendees and will be viewable on Walmart’s own live streaming platform as well as the retailer’s YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and TikTok sites.
Walmart has participated in many live shopping events since the fall of 2020. A recent Klarna study showed that while only 25% of consumers surveyed had participated in a virtual live shopping event, 60% of those who had participated said that the event improved their online shopping experience. Baby boomers (28%) and Generation X (27%) - middle-aged and older groups are more likely to participate in these events than millennials (23%) or Generation Z (20%).
