According to Pitney Bowes' annual transportation index, Amazon Logistics' total domestic package volume in 2020 exceeded FedEx, reaching 4.2 billion pieces, ranking third. The first place was the United States Postal Service (7.6 billion pieces), followed by UPS (4.92 billion pieces). It is reported that this is the first time that Amazon has surpassed major carriers in terms of package volume.
The report shows that Amazon has seen the largest year-over-year growth in package volume so far, with a 127% increase in package volume in 2020, followed by the USPS (up 34%), FedEx (up 21.7%) and UPS (up 12.6%). These four logistics giants account for 99% of the market, with the USPS accounting for 38%, UPS accounting for 24%, Amazon accounting for 21%, and FedEx accounting for 16%.
Overall, parcel volume in 2020 increased 37% from 14.7 billion to 20 billion, and the e-commerce share increased from 19.6% to 24.5%.
In terms of revenue, UPS and FedEx were close to breaking even, at $60 billion and $58.3 billion, respectively, followed by the USPS ($32.5 billion) and Amazon ($18.5 billion).
