According to a survey by eMarketer, U.S. grocery delivery e-commerce sales are expected to grow by 11.4% to $79.71 billion by the end of this year, compared with 41.7% in 2020. This also indicates that the explosive growth of the e-commerce economy caused by the epidemic in the past year has entered a state of easing.
According to emarketer's forecast, although the growth rate has slowed, online sales of grocery delivery in the United States will continue to grow in the next few years and are expected to reach US$145.22 billion in 2025.
Due to the sudden increase in online shopping last year, but forced by limited capacity, many supermarkets and retailers began outsourcing delivery services to third-party services such as Instacart.
Although using third-party delivery services does eat into some of the retailers’ profits, it is the best investment method to gain the maximum number of customers at the lowest cost. Not all retailers have the ability to build their own logistics network and provide same-day or next-day delivery services.
According to our estimates, grocery sales through third-party delivery services grew more than 215% last year and accounted for nearly 39% of grocery delivery e-commerce sales.
