US consumers start holiday shopping early, with nearly 70% targeting Amazon's fall Prime Day

It is learned that according to foreign media reports, according to a survey of 1,000 American consumers conducted by omni-channel shopping platform Skai, most American consumers will start holiday shopping before November this year, reflecting that the time planning for holiday shopping is earlier than in previous years.

Specifically, 58% of U.S. consumers will start shopping in November, while 15% have already started holiday season shopping. With many retailers moving promotions forward, 60% of consumers believe it is too early to start holiday promotions before October, while 20% believe it is never too early to start holiday promotions.

At the same time, nearly seven in ten (68%) consumers plan to buy holiday gifts during Amazon’s fall Prime Day in October, while 66% of consumers plan to spend up to half of their holiday budget between Black Friday and Cyber Monday, indicating that promotions remain an important choice for holiday shoppers.

Skai's survey also pointed out that 80% of consumers plan to be frugal during this year's holiday season, and they are more cautious in spending due to economic pressure. Despite this, 66% of consumers said that holiday spending will be the same as in previous years or increase. As for specific expenditures, 51% of consumers plan to spend no more than $500, while 49% of consumers expect to spend more than $500.

Popular categories for holiday shopping include fashion and apparel (90.7%), toys and games (84.6%), hobbies and leisure (83.8%), beauty and personal care (81.8%), and books, music and media (78.5%). In addition, consumers' shopping decisions are mainly influenced by retailer websites, search engines, physical store browsing, social media, and television and streaming.

It is worth noting that this year, 13% of consumers plan to use AI tools such as ChatGPT to get holiday shopping inspiration, a significant increase from 5% last year, showing the growing importance of AI in consumer shopping decisions.
