UPS fined $5.3 million for forging false proof of delivery!

It is learned that the U.S. Department of Justice in Washington reported that UPS recently agreed to pay $5.3 million in settlement for misrepresenting the international delivery time of U.S. mail in its cooperation with the United States Postal Service (USPS).

Under the USPS contract, UPS picks up U.S. mail at six locations within the United States and at multiple overseas locations for the Department of Defense and the State Department, and then delivers the mail to numerous designated international and domestic destinations.

To get paid under the contract, UPS is required to submit electronic scans to USPS reporting when mail is delivered to its designated destination.

The contract stipulated penalties for late or wrong mail delivery. To avoid fines, UPS forged a fake electronic scanned document, making the time and location of the shipment appear to be in full compliance with the contract requirements.

According to the USPS, UPS's false reports diverted U.S. mail to foreign post offices or other intended recipients, which may have included packages from cross-border e-commerce sellers.

It is understood that some sellers have encountered situations where orders were shown to have been delivered, but the actual goods were missing, which may be related to this situation.

In order to minimize the loss of such incidents, it is recommended that sellers apply for insurance for the shipment. If UPS loses the shipment and the seller does not apply for insurance, UPS will only be responsible for its own unilateral negligence. If insurance is applied, the seller will receive compensation based on the actual situation.
