"Big traffic jam" at US ports! Walmart, FedEx, and UPS will increase nighttime shipping!

It is learned that according to foreign media reports, due to the recent intensification of supply chain problems in the United States, President Biden met with leaders of major ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach and warehouses to discuss solutions. On Wednesday, the Biden administration announced that major ports will implement a full-day operation mode to solve the supply chain bottlenecks and shortages caused by the epidemic.

In addition, FedEx and UPS, as well as major supermarket giants such as Walmart, Home Depot and Target, have also joined the fight. Currently, the unloading problem at the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach in the United States is very serious, with more than 500,000 containers piled up in its ports.

It is reported that Walmart will significantly increase its nighttime operating hours, which is expected to increase throughput by up to 50% in the coming weeks.

Home Depot will add 10% of its weekly containers during off-peak port hours at the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, while Target will increase its overnight container traffic from 50% to 60% to ease port congestion.

UPS will strengthen its 24/7 data operations, which could increase port shipments by 20%.

FedEx has also pledged to increase its nighttime hours and switch to a combination of truck and rail, which will increase the company's nighttime port shipments by 20%.

Once these measures are in place, more than 3,500 additional containers will be transported overnight each week by the end of the year, the report said.
