The U.S. online grocery market is poised for strong growth! These trends are worth watching!

According to foreign media reports, according to Chicory's survey of more than 1,000 online shoppers, 72% of respondents have purchased groceries in the past three months. In addition, according to Statista data, the number of online grocery shoppers in the United States is currently about 150 million, achieving steady growth.

Chicory pointed out that the number of online grocery shoppers in the United States will grow further in 2022, and more people will be willing to spend money and time in this area. Retailers who invest in the digital advertising market will get higher returns.

Statista projects that the U.S. online grocery market will reach $135.2 billion in 2022, up from $112.9 billion in 2021, and will further increase to $187.7 billion by 2024.

Chicory’s survey also pointed out the consumption trends of American grocery online shoppers, including:

  • Reasons for choosing to buy groceries online include convenience (46%), greater product availability (19.3%), and health and safety (10%).

  • The main three categories of products purchased are: staple foods and daily necessities (33%), dairy or meat products (18%) and agricultural products (16.6%).

  • The main purchases are made on these three platforms: Walmart (35%), Amazon (23%) and Instacart (10%).

  • Cost per order: More than a third of shoppers spend more than $100, and 50% spend between $50 and $100.

  • More than 52% of respondents shop online at least once a week, and more than 45.5% of respondents add new products to their shopping carts every week.
