Approved by the "Two Sessions"! The US Consumer Notification Act is about to be introduced!

It is learned that according to foreign media reports, on March 7, the Colorado State Legislature officially approved a new bill, the Consumer Notification Act, which aims to combat the anonymous sale of "counterfeit and shoddy products" through online markets such as eBay and Facebook.

According to reports, the bill was approved by the House of Representatives in February with a vote of 60 to 3. On Monday, the Senate passed the bill unanimously. After being approved by both houses, the bill has now been transferred to Colorado Governor Jared Polis for final review.

According to reports, if the bill is enacted, third-party sellers will need to provide identity information to online platforms or sales partners to ensure the legitimacy of transactions. This requirement applies to sellers with annual sales of more than $20,000, except for sellers selling second-hand items.

It is worth noting that if sellers do not provide the required information, they will face charges of "deceptive trade practices" and will be fined up to $20,000 for each violation.

Rob Woodward, the bill's sponsor, said that criminals are stealing packages from major retailers such as Amazon, and organized burglaries have seriously damaged the costs of local retailers. The bill will effectively solve these problems. (The reason is that after the packages are stolen, criminals will ask manufacturers to produce "counterfeit products" according to the "authentic" ones).

It is learned that the number of "retail crimes" in various states in the United States has been rising. In 2021, 69% of retailers experienced more "thefts". Among them, reports of theft, robbery and burglary in Colorado have been steadily increasing. In 2021, it reached more than 147,000, an increase of 13,000 from 2019.
