Searches for "Facebook" have dropped by nearly 90% in the past decade, resulting in $10 billion in advertising losses

According to Banklesstimes.com, searches for the word Facebook have dropped by 87% over the past decade. The aging of Facebook’s audience and the rise of TikTok are the main reasons behind the waning interest in Facebook searches.

Market research shows that Facebook is becoming less attractive to users under the age of 30. Despite the parent company's name change to Meta, the Facebook platform is losing appeal among teenagers and young adults in its main markets. According to reports, its users fell further from 1.93 billion users in the third quarter of 2021 to 1.929 billion in the fourth quarter.

This situation will become more serious as more competitors enter the market.

In February of this year, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg publicly stated that its users had been lost to TikTok. Although Meta has been offering Reels on platforms such as Instagram and WhatsApp, their engagement is far less than Tiktok.

According to Zuckerberg, Meta is working hard to launch its short video product in an attempt to surpass TikTok. In addition, the "App Tracking Transparency" feature of the 14.5 version of the iOS mobile operating system launched by Apple in 2021 has also made Facebook's predicament worse.

The report said that this change has shaken advertisers who rely on Facebook marketing to maintain their business. Some advertisers have begun to withdraw from Facebook and choose TikTok instead.

As a result, Facebook has lost $10 billion in advertising revenue, which is almost 9% of its 2021 revenue and a quarter of its overall annual profit.
