US Customs seized another batch of Chinese goods worth more than $160,000!

It is learned that according to foreign media reports, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officials recently seized a batch of goods from China at the Port of Vicksburg-Jackson in Mississippi.

According to reports, the goods were women's brooches, involving the well-known brand "Chanel", with a total of 250 pieces. After identification, these brooches were all fakes. If they were real, they would be worth more than $162,500.

According to reports, in the second quarter of fiscal year 2022, Vicksburg Customs announced the seizure of 73 batches of goods that infringed intellectual property rights, with a total value of up to US$998,889.06. Most of them were counterfeit shoes, handbags, jewelry, etc. In addition, in fiscal year 2021, Vicksburg Customs seized a total of 431 batches of goods with a value of more than US$5 million.

“Americans often mistakenly believe that purchasing counterfeit goods is a harmless act,” said Miguel Garza, an officer in charge of the seizure. “However, it is important to understand that this behavior helps transnational criminal organizations make a lot of ill-gotten gains and costs brands billions of dollars.”

CBP data shows that counterfeit handbags, wallets, apparel, footwear, watches, jewelry and consumer electronics are at a higher risk of being seized. In 2021, counterfeit watches and jewelry accounted for almost half of all seizures. Fakes often carry these signs of being illegitimate: peeling labels, low-quality ink, printing errors on the packaging, loosely packed items in the box, poor or uneven stitching, and improper size or design.

CBP said that counterfeit and substandard products are often sold on major e-commerce platforms and second-hand resale markets. Counterfeit goods can harm the U.S. economy, threaten the health and safety of consumers, and promote the growth of criminal activities. Therefore, CBP will take strict customs inspections to prevent counterfeit products from circulating in the United States.
