Amazon’s billion-dollar sales were blocked, resulting in losses of tens of millions during the promotion!

Amazon’s billion-dollar sales were blocked, resulting in losses of tens of millions during the promotion!

Recently, Amazon has once again set off a round of "number sweeping wave" . According to data, from November 1 to 20 alone , about 5,000 Chinese sellers' stores were suspected to be blocked by Amazon!

What’s even more shocking is that a big seller with an annual revenue of 200 million yuan was blocked during the Black Friday online promotion due to product infringement issues. The company suffered a loss of 2 million US dollars and 80% of its employees were forced to take leave!

This incident also caused an uproar on social media!

01
An account with an annual income of 200 million yuan was blocked

How miserable is it to be blocked during a big sale? A seller on Amazon with an annual income of 200 million yuan has shared his own experience. Seller Brent Wynne posted on social media that he was unfairly punished by the Amazon platform and his account was blocked during a big sale on the Internet, causing heavy losses.

It is understood that Brent Wynne runs a store called TB Superstore on Amazon, with seller ID: A3VQS8HNHDVD50, and annual revenue of 30 million US dollars (approximately 218 million RMB). The company was once selected into the US Inc. 5000 list.

According to data, TB Superstore has been selling on the Amazon marketplace since 2014. A seller rating website called it "a top seller trusted by more than 10,000 Amazon customers in the United States...ranked 1,285th overall on Amazon." (The website's seller ranking is determined by the number of positive reviews received in the past 30 days)

However, during the Cyber Monday promotion, his Amazon account was suddenly blocked because a product sold by the company was accused of false copyright infringement by the Amazon platform.

According to the seller, after receiving the infringement complaint, he contacted multiple suppliers and submitted all the necessary documents required by Amazon to prove the authenticity of his products, and he was ready to confirm the invoice.

Despite this, Amazon did not conduct an in-depth investigation into the matter, but directly blocked the company's account . Since the account was closed during the promotion period, his company suffered a serious blow. He had to let 80% of his employees take leave , and the company's operations almost came to a standstill.

According to statistics, Brent Wynne has lost more than 2 million US dollars since his account was blocked.

In desperation, Brent Wynne called on Amazon on social media to immediately restore the company's store account, and believed that Amazon's inaction directly violated its "customer-centric" commitment.

It is worth noting that the account blocking incident on the Amazon platform is not an isolated case. Especially in recent times, the supervision of sellers has been continuously strengthened!

02
Nearly 5,000 Chinese Amazon accounts are suspected to have been blocked

As policies tighten, Amazon is blocking accounts more and more frequently.

Especially in recent times, sellers have been caught in account crises: Agreement 3 video verification, product authenticity review, supply chain video verification, tightening of "repeated violation" policies, strict investigation of false paid reviews, strict investigation of illegal mergers/refurbishments//Merge, account association, various product qualification requirements, etc.

Starting from November, it should have been a critical period for sellers to boost their performance. However, the sudden wave of "account bans" stopped many sellers before they even entered the battlefield, including some with monthly sales of more than hundreds of thousands of US dollars.

According to data from SmartScout, hundreds of Chinese sellers’ Amazon stores stopped selling every day in November. From November 1 to 20 alone, about 5,000 Chinese sellers’ stores were suspected of being blocked by Amazon. Even on November 20, about 500 Chinese sellers’ stores stopped selling on Amazon, and on November 21, 31 Amazon stores were blocked!

Among these stores that have either voluntarily stopped sales or been closed, several have monthly sales of millions of US dollars and annual sales of more than 10 million US dollars, which are what the industry calls "billion-level sellers."

For example, the links of the four sellers in the picture below are currently unavailable.

This is only the result of the data survey in November. In some social media and seller communication groups, there are still many sellers who have feedback links removed from shelves, misjudged accounts, etc. There is even an Amazon seller whose store shows a balance of tens of thousands of dollars and recent daily sales of two to three thousand dollars, but his account was also blocked due to association issues.

This tragic consequence is hard for big sellers to cope with, let alone small and medium-sized sellers. These incidents are also a warning to sellers: the platform is getting tighter and tighter on compliance issues, and sellers must pay attention to compliance from the source and in the early stages of operation to avoid subsequent operational risks.

At the same time, in the face of possible misjudgments or unfair penalties from the platform, sellers need to actively seek solutions and safeguard their legitimate rights and interests.

This "account suspension wave" also highlights the risks of a single channel. Over-reliance on a single platform will bring devastating blows to sellers once problems arise. Therefore, multi-channel layout and risk diversification are also the inevitable choice for sellers to develop in the long run.
